Sindh Govt notifies additional seats for minorities

ISLAMABAD, Jul 24 (APP): Sindh government has issued a notice to allocate additional seats for minorities in 12 districts of minority communities concentration in the province for the Local Government Election 2005. The notification has been issued on directives of Acting Chief Election Commissioner, Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar, who has directed the Sindh Government for more seats for minorities during a meeting of Election Commission of Pakistan in Karachi last week. Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad, Secretary Election Commission of Pakistan said in a statement that the Sindh government has issued notifications allocating additional seats for Minority Communities in the Union Councils of 12 districts of Sindh Province. In these districts, he said, the population of Minorities is in excess of 10 percent of the total population of the Union as provided in proviso under section 87 of the Sindh Local Government Ordinance, 2001. "These seats are apart from one seat reserved for Minority Communities in those Union Councils," Dilshad said. He said details of additional seats for Minority Communities with the name of concerned Union Councils have been provided to the concerned District Returning Officers and Returning Officers.The districts where such seats have been allocated are City District Karachi (Jamshed Town), Jacobabad, Tharparkar, Sanghar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Jamshoro, Matiari, Kandhkot, Tando Allahyar and Tando Muhammad Khan.
