Voice of Baloch Nationalists in powerful US congress forum
Washington DC: February 8, 2012. (PCP) The U.S. House of Representatives House Committee on Foreign Affairs, Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations under chairmanship of Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) held hearing on Balochistan issue to witness testimonies on human right violation and target killing of Baloch Nationalists by state and other actors.
It was after a decades that Baloch issue crossed it limits from mountains and deserts of Balochistan and reached in Capital of United States of America where fate of enslaved and oppressed nations changes to democracy and freedom.
The said hearing invited special attention of Baloch Diaspora in Europe and North America who have been raising voice of Baloch nationalist in Balochistan in ongoing operation of Pakistan Armed forces to suppress struggle of rights and freedom.
The leaders of American Friends of Balochistan, Baloch Society in North america and Baloch Human Right Council in Canada along with other Baloch nationals in USA have travelled to Washington DC to witness hour long proceedings of US House Representatives House Committee on Foreign Affairs, Subcommittee on oversight and investigation.
The Balochisan is largest province of Pakistan in area and enriched with minerals and natural resources. There have been movements for Provincial autonomy and share in resources of Balochistan by Baloch nationalists which were ignored by Islamabad.
Messers C. Christine Fair, PhD, Assistant Professor, Georgetown University, Mr. Ralph Peters, Military Analyst and Author, Mr. T. Kumar, Director, International Advocacy Amnesty International USA, M. Hossein Bor, PhD, Counsel, Entwistle & Cappucci, LLP and Mr. Ali Dayan Hasan, Pakistan Director, Asia Division, Human Rights Watch presented their witnesses.
Mr. Ralph Peters in his presentation strongly pressed for rights of Baloch nationalists and incidents of state terrorism to suppress movements of freedom of Balochistan. He pointed importance of geopolitical and strategic importance of Balochistan which was divided by British Raj in Pakistan Balochisan, Afghanistan Balochistan and Iranian Balochistan to divide land where Baloch were practicing Sufi-Islam from centuries. He alleged Pakistan armed forces to gun down Baloch youth with American guns provided to fight Talaban and Al-Quida terrorists. He raised questions of American tax-payers funds in aid of Pakistan of Pakistan armed forces.
There were nods and silent protest by Baloch Diaspora present in hearing room when Human Rights Watch Representative Mr. Dayan Hasan said in his witness that Baloch are 60% and other ethnic groups are 40% in Balichistan and Baloch nationalists are killing Punjabi and other ethnic communities.
Mr. Hossien Bor, the only Baloch national to present his witness presented historical heritage of Baloch nation and said that moderate Islamic traditions and Sufi culture of Baloch can be valuable asset for democratic world to block terrorism in region. He pointed out incidents of kidnapping of Baloch youth by security agencies of Pakistan and their tortured strangled dead bodies on roadsides of Balochistan.
The House urged right of self-determination for Balochistan and issues of Baloch settled in Sindh were also highlighted.
Mr. Kumar in his witness informed subcommittee Chairman about Amnesty International’s documented cases of target killing of Baloch nationals and sectarian violence in Balochistan.
The hearing on Balochistan was marred by statement of US State Department press conference same day when US state Department representative in an answer to a question said that there is no change in US policy with Pakistan and we urge Balochistan issue to be settled with dialogues.
