South Asian Community hosts Democratic Candidates in the Rensselaer County

Albany, NY: October 25, 2017. (PCP) This is the first year that a collective effort is being made to recognize and meet with the Candidates seeking Public office in the Rensselaer county. Mr. Julian Schreibman is candidate for District 3rd Supreme County Judge, began his career in Baker & McKenzie after graduating from Yale Law School in 1997. The following year, he joined the CIA’s Office of General Counsel, where he served for three and a half years on a range of civil and criminal cases. He was the recipient of the Attorney General’s Distinguished Service Award in 2002 for his contribution to the prosecution of four Al Qaeda terrorists for the attacks in 1998 on U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. In 2002, Mr. Schreibman became an Assistant United States Attorney in the Southern District of New York. He later served as Senior Assistant District Attorney in Ulster County, New York, where he completed the largest Grand Jury investigation in the County’s history, examining allegations of misconduct, after which he joined Wachtell Missry’s Litigation Department where he has been a partner. Ms. Jennifer Sober, who seeks for County Criminal Judge in the Rensselaer County, served as an assistant district attorney in both Rensselaer and Albany counties' district attorney offices. She has been a hearing officer for the state Education Department since 2005 in addition to her general law practice. For more than a decade, Ms. Sober has represented individuals charged with serious offenses in state and federal court. She has tried numerous civil and criminal cases to verdict and represents a broad range of individuals and issues. After graduating from SUNY Albany, she pursued her Juris Doctorate at Albany Law School. Following that, she began her legal career as an Assistant District Attorney until 2005 when she opened her own firm, concentrating on the practice of criminal defense and civil litigation. Ms. Smyth is the Rensselaer County Executive Candidate, who is a graduate of the Rockefeller College Graduate School of Public Affairs & Policy at UAlbany. Ms. Smyth has worked for some of Albany’s most influential associations, including the New York State Association of Counties, the New York Public Welfare Association and the Home Care Association of NYS. Currently, she is the Executive Director of the NYS Coalition for Children’s Mental Health Services and owner of A Smyth Advocacy, a government relations and strategic planning firm she opened in 1999. She currently serves on the Citizens Fiscal Advisory Committee and the Rensselaer County Democratic Committee. Moderator of meet and greet program, Annu Subramanian is an author, public speaker, and a human-rights advocate from Albany, New York. She speaks at various events to raise funds for grassroots movements, to promote women’s empowerment, and to address human-rights abuse. She is using ANOTHER HEAVEN, her recent novel, to benefit victims of human trafficking. She was chosen as one of the four national finalists by Norman Mailer Center and NCTE in 2011 for her short story titled “So Fair and Very Lovely” and as an Educator of Excellence in 2011 by New York State English Council (NYSEC). Proceeds from her debut novel, WAITING FOR THE PERFECT DAWN, benefit victims of domestic violence. Introduction to Moderator is given by leesa Perazzo, a City Councilwoman Leesa Perazzo will be sworn in Friday as the new City Council president during the annual organizational meeting at Proctors. She was locked in a battle with Councilman Ed Kosiur over the coveted leadership post but, during an hours long contentious meeting Wednesday, the Democrats were able to iron out their differences, agreeing to rally around Perazzo for the job. Once she is formally voted in Friday, Perazzo will preside over City Council meetings and setting the agendas. She will succeed Margaret "Peggy" King, as council president. King did not seek re-election. Perazzo said Thursday the theme of her acceptance speech will be the progress being made on several fronts in the Electric City. She'll likely make her point that the city is moving forward by talking about the $330 million Rivers Casino project being constructed on the former Alco site on Erie Boulevard and the recently adopted $81.81 million budget for 2016 that included a modest property tax reduction. Among guests are Dr. Rashid A. Chotani, MD, MPH, DTM. Dr. Chotani is a Senior Fellow of the Potomac Institute for Policy Studies in Arlington, Virginia. Some people in the community know him. He has over twenty years of experience as a leader, primary investigator, professor, program manager, and scientist in academia, government, the Department of Defense, and industry. Dr. Chotani currently serves as the Director of Chemical-Biological Defense Programs at TASC. Dr. Chotani is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) in the Department of Preventive Medicine and Biometrics, Associate at the Center for Global Health at Johns Hopkins University and a Mentor to the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. He serves the Office of the Maryland Governor as a Member of the Pandemic Influenza Coordinating Committee; Senator Ben Cardin’s Health Advisory Committee; and the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration Commission of Howard County. Ambassador Malik Nadeem Abid - Secretary General & Ambassador to UN: International Human Rights Commission. Also he is the First Vice President at New York State Adult Day Services Association; New York State Chair at Democratic National Committee's Ethnic Council of DNC. In the past he held the positions of First Vice President at New York State Adult Day Services Association; Director - Business Development at Center light Health System (Previously Comprehensive Care Management) and County Commissioner at Nassau. He is a team player, born leader who leads the team to achieve the corporate & team goals, motivator, innovative approach in sales and marketing. Malik Sahib - will discuss the necessity of a south Asian Community needs to participate in the Local / future elections. It is very important to point out that the Governor office in NY State has asked the Rensselaer county as the site for developing the HQ for Amazon. Which will impact and import Talent across the Global. As part of the Ethnic South Asian Community we are very aware of the changes coming to the region and would support the candidates that will be impartial and productive in understating the intricacies of developing the region into a Global village.
