Karachi: May 30, 2016. (PCP) In a press note issued here today from Central Secretariat of Pakistan Christian Congress PCC have strongly condemned statement made by one Christian Minister on floor of Punjab assembly alleging some Christian Pastors and Bishops as “Fake” and announced crackdown to expose and punish them. A low profile Christian leader Khalil Tahir Sandhu who is Minister for Human Rights and Minorities affairs of Punjab government alleged those Pastors and Bishops as “Fake” who are not recommended by Punjab Minorities Council nor included in list which it submitted with NADRA and other relevant to register marriages performed. Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz Group PML (N) is ruling Punjab province of Pakistan and Mr. Khalil Tahir Sandhu is not elected by votes of Christians to be member of Punjab Assembly but selected by PML (N) nor is Punjab Minorities Council an elected body to represent Christians in Punjab. Dr. Nazir S Bhatti said “violence against Christian is rising, cases of blasphemy against Christian are at peak, Christian women are abducted and forced to convert to Islam and Christians are not enjoying equal rights in Punjab province of Pakistan but Human Rights and Minorities Affair Mr. Khalil Tahir seals his lips on floor of house but announces crackdown on Pastors and Bishops who not joining Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz PML (N) to please his masters” “Catholic Church of Pakistan, Church of Pakistan, Baptists, Evangelists and House Churches with big or small congregations are respectable for Christians and same are persons who are honored with Clerical Collars and we will not allow anyone to publically disrespect them as Selected Minister Mr. Sandhu dared to do on floor of Punjab Assembly” added Nazir Bhatti PCC Chief said to perform rituals of marriage is right of every Pastor and Bishop who represent registered Churches or organization with registration of societies department of Punjab government nor have right of Punjab Minorities Council to enlist Pastors and Bishops of their choice. Dr. Nazir Bhatti urged Chief Minister of Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif to intervene in this issue immediately and to order Local Governments in cities, towns and villages in Punjab to register marriages and death certificates issued by Pastors and Bishops of Churches who are registered with Punjab government. “It’s important for integrity of Christianity in Islamic Republic of Pakistan that we respect our clergy because if we will call our clergy fake then it will damage our religious identity in Pakistan which is already on target of extremist Muslims” said Nazir Bhatti Nazir Bhatti demanded Interior Minister Ch. Nisar Ali to order NADRA to register Christian marriages and Death certificates issue by licensed holder Pastor and Bishops instead of list provided by Punjab Minority Council.
