TORTURE ON TAMILS BY SHRILANKAN POLICE |
| SUBHASH CHANDRA AGRAWAL |
United Nations Organization (UNO) should take up with Shrilankan government the matter of a mentally-weak Tamil civilian being mercilessly drowned in sea by Shrilankan police. Only a few days back, TV visuals showed execution of another unarmed Tamil civilian by Shrilankan police. All this establishes killing of normal civilian and human rights of Shrilankan citizens of Tamil origin, making them third-degree citizens in their own country. India has reason to be concerned on such atrocities on Tamil citizens of Shrilanka also because India has to face a flood of Tamil migrants in days of increasing atrocities on them in Shrilanka.
India always acted like a big brother for Srilanka when even top Indian leader Rajiv Gandhi’s life was sacrificed through LTTE suicidal-attackers because Rajiv Gandhi as Indian Prime Minister sent forces to help Srilankan government against insurgent war by LTTE. Indian Peace Keeping Forces (IPKF) also suffered sizable casualties including large number of young officers. It is time that Srilankan government may be reminded of decades old step-motherly treatment towards Srilankan Tamils, which was responsible for creation of LTTE.
