Dreaded Blasphemy laws claim the lives of two more innocent Christians in Pakistan. Peter Bhatti

Canada: July 22, 2010. (PCP) Two brothers of the Christian faith were brutally murdered on Monday July 19, 2010 in the city of Faisalabad in Pakistan. They had been accused of making derogatory remarks against the prophet Muhammad in fliers circulating in the town and bearing their names. They had been in custody for over a month and were exiting the court, shackled between two policemen, when they were gunned down. This is another outrageous case of Christians be falsely charged under the blasphemy laws, and executed by fanatical Muslims urged on by their so- called religious leaders. There is evidence that the police analysis of the fliers indicated that the brothers were not responsible for them. There is also evidence of Muslims being incited to violence against Christians in local mosques. A local Catholic church was attacked, and Christians fearing for the lives, have fled their homes. The city is extremely tense. The International Christian Voice which is active locally in informing people about injustices and brutality against Christians and other minorities in Pakistan strongly condemns these brutal killings and: 1. Calls on the Pakistan government to repeal the Blasphemy laws immediately, to provide Christians security in Faisalabad and other areas where they are threatened, and to arrest and prosecute the perpetrators of this horrendous crime, and the so called religious leaders who made it happen 2. Calls on all intelligent and well meaning Muslims to do all in their power to help their Christian brothers in these difficult times. 3. Calls on Human Rights organizations the world over to raise their voices in support of the beleaguered Christian community in Pakistan, and to do whatever they can to help. 4. Calls on the Government of Canada to urge the Pakistan government to repeal the Blasphemy laws immediately and to provide security for Christians in the Faisalabad area.
