HRFP calls for Prayer Day on January 30th for release of Asia Bibi

Lahore, Pakistan: January 27, 2011. (By Ms Mobeena Gill) Human Rights Focus Pakistan appealed for the “Prayer Day” for the release of Asia Bibi & for the total repeal of Blasphemy Laws. Human Rights Focus Pakistan appealed to Christians for the “Prayer Day” on January 30, 2011. HRFP also appealed for the fasting, peaceful protest and uniting against the blasphemy laws and for the release of Asia bibi, a Christian woman of 45 years old and mother of five children sentenced to death for blasphemy. Naveed Walter, President for HRFP said, “A day will be observed as “Prayer Day” for the release of Asia bibi and for the total repeal of blasphemy laws. He said “We appealed to all the Christians, NGO’s, human rights activists and political workers for peaceful protest. We request to the all the Churches to offer prayers for the peace and harmony, and we also motivate organizations to arrange meetings and register a protest so that day will become the voice against Christian’s persecution in Pakistan”. Naveed Walter said “It’s an urgent to gather all the Christian forces and device one combined strategy to meet this challenge. How far the religious fanatics and fundamentalists will keep on punishing our brothers and sister like Asia bibi for nothing? How far no one take the initiative? It’s a right time to start a movement. Otherwise, this custom will become a daily regular practice and we keep on losing our leaders and people”. He said “due to the recent incident of Governor Salman Taseer’s assassination, the people lose their confidence and are in the state of extreme fear. HRFP and other like minded decided to make strong movement for Asia’s release, for uniting against the discriminatory laws and persecutions in Pakistan on the happenings going on from years, He added more.
