Commercial Plaza around St. Andrew’s Church may not be allowed

Karachi: November 24, 2011. (PCP) The President of St. Andrews Church Youth Fellowship Mr. Henry Kamran, Mr. Junaid Ian, General Secretary and others met with MPA Saleem Khurshid Khokhar, Chairman, Standing Committee on Minorities Affairs, Sindh Assembly and President, All Pakistan Minorities Alliance Sindh at his residence and informed that the Rt. Rev. Sadiq Daniel, Bishop of Karachi Diocese, Church of Pakistan had publically revealed and announce in their Diocesan Council held on 11th & 12th October at the Holy Trinity Cathedral that he would built shops in and around the St. Andrews Church, Saddar Karachi under the cover and name of “Development” and commercialize the plot as a Market. The Youth delegation also informed MPA that the open land around St. Andrews Church building had been regularly used for Annual Karachi Convention where prayers services were conducted, but for the last few years this religious activity has been discontinued deliberately so as enable the aforesaid bishop to commercialize and built shops on open land. Mr. Saleem Khokhar assured the youth delegation that our Government respect the feelings of religious minorities and would not allow any person to build, construct shops / flats around St. Andrews Church in the name of development. Mr. Saleem Khokhar stressed that the church would be used for prayers services which the house of God. If anybody attempts to commercialize the church land and properties of St. Andrews Church, Saddar Karachi appropriate action would be taken in accordance with law. Mr. Saleem Khursheed Khokhar advised the youth members to concentrate on their education and work for dedicatedly for the Church programs, whereas God will take care of his house Himself.
