Pakistani Christian clergy proposes Christian education in Syllabus

Karachi: January 29, 2012. (PCP) In the Provincial Assembly Sindh Session of 21-12-2011 Senior Minister Education Pir Mazharul Haq assured Mr. Saleem Khursheed Khokhar MPA, Sindh, Chairman Standing Committee on Minorities Affairs Sindh Assembly and President All Pakistan Minorities Alliance Sindh that Christian Education to the Christian Student would be included in the syllabus in the similar way it is being done to the Muslim Students. The Minister suggested that a syllabus which is agreed upon unanimously by all the denomination of the Christian Community. In this respect Bishop John Joseph Coutts Bishop of Failsabad & President Pakistan Bishop Conference, Rofan Anthony Bishop of Islamabad, Secretary General Pakistan Catholic Bishop Conference, Bishop Alexander John Malik Bishop of Lahore Church of Pakistan, Rev. Arif Masih Siraj, Moderator Church of Pakistan, Yousuf Ghulam Salvation Army Church, Lt. Col. Salvation Army and Chief Secretary Salvation Army Pakistan gave their approval on the proposed syllabus and other Bishops are being contacted in this regard. This proposed syllabus has been sent to Supreme Body of Church of Pakistan, Secretary Synod of Pakistan and Rt. Rev. Samuel Azriah Moderator Church of Pakistan. Since the Moderator Church of Pakistan is in abroad, on his return the different leaders and churches joint conference would be convened so as to give a unanimous approval to the proposed syllabus in the near future. Mr. Saleem Khursheed Khokhar expressed his views to a delegation from Hyderabad / Kotri to Mansha Masih, Nazir Gill and others that the 1973 Constitution of Pakistan provides equal rights in accordance with Article 25 and as such if this syllabus is introduced, the Christian Students would benefit from this syllabus and would enable them to educate themselves in their own religion, this would create religious harmony and discourage religious extremism in Pakistan.
