SLMP and COYA hold Third Consultive meeting on Josph Colony Lahore incident

Lahore: March 29, 2013. (PCP) The Christian NGOs and civil society organizations in their third consultative meeting expressed grief concerns over the worst law and order situation, political instability and most horrible state of minorities in Pakistan. The participants condemned the religiously motivated violence against Christian residents of Joseph Colony and also recalled on the failure of administrative and police authorities in the present and past unpleasant incidents in which the minority communities were unjustly and violently attacked by the fanatics. The participants mainly focused on the misuse of blasphemy laws and talked about the future course of action to timely stop the mob violence against minority communities in the country. The participants also demanded the political parties for election of the minority political representatives and not selection. The participants in remembrance of the incident of Joseph Colony and articulated that the attack on Joseph Colony is unacceptable and the culprits must punish for the best interest of justice. The police and administration instead of providing security, warned the Christians to vacate the colony and allowed the violent attackers to burn the properties, churches, Holy Bibles and consecrated objects were desecrated inhumanly. The mob in the presence of the police entered in the colony and started looting and violently burnt household articles. The police and administration totally failed to protect the minority community. The participants also conferred their grievances on the disrespect of innocent Christians of Joseph Colony especially women and the children. The participants also criticized the professional negligence of the police and on the conduct of District Government for not allowing the NGOs for rehabilitation activities and prohibiting for monitoring the relief activities in the affected Joseph Colony. However, the participants urged the government to adopt safeguards and take appropriate measures for the protection and promotion of minority rights. The participants appreciate the government for repairing the houses and distribution of cheques among affected Christians. The participants hailed the services of welfare organizations, NGOs and civil society organizations for the relief activities and other humanitarian assistance. The participants thanked the Chief Justice of Pakistan for taking suo moto notice on the unjust attack and anticipated that the justice will be done. The participants also appreciate and salute the encouraging role of media personnel for highlighting the mob violence erupted against Christians. The participants also prayed for peaceful Pakistan and asked prayers for the development and progress of Pakistan. The participants collectively expressed worries on the recent mob violence against Christians in Lahore and appeal the political and religious political parties for religious harmony and peace. At present the District Government enforcedly vacating the Christian residents of Joseph Colony from the relief camps and enforced to move into their repair houses. On the other hand the repaired houses spitting and unable to stay. The Christians are despite the fact enter are suffering through the essential needs such as suffering through viral diseases and spell of mosquitos The consultative meeting was chaired by Mr. Irfan Barkat (Human Rights Activist) and other participants including Sohail Johnson (Chairman Sharing Life Ministry Pakistan SLMP), Javed Gill (President Council of Youth Advisors COYA), Ms. Aneeqa Maria Advocate High Court (Chief Coordinator the Voice Society), Mr. Khalid Shahzad (Director Dorothea Centre for Special Children & social, political activist), Mr. Nadeem Anthony Advocate (Council Member Human Rights Commission of Pakistan) and Aslam Pervaiz Sahotra (Chairman Human Liberation Commission) in particular. The representative of 35 Christian NGOs includes Mishal Youth Group, Human Equal Life of People (HELP), Pakistan Railway Christian Union and New Life Ministry attended the meeting. At the end a press conference was held and the above stated reservations were shared with media personnel.
