LARKANA: March 30, 2013. (Nazir Siyal) As many as 31 suffering from HIV/Aids cases were registered among 13 cases in January and 18 HIV/Aids cases in February during the year 2013, almost these cases identified due to intravenous drug users and some of them attributed to sexual contact.
According the facts revealed here by Mehran Social Welfare Trust (MWT) and Dr. Saleemullah Shaikh Incharge of the Center of Excellence at Central Laboratory of Chandka Medical Collage Hospital Larkana district a southern part of Sindh there is over 2.1 million populations.
They disclosed that the HIV Confirmatory Test Machine (Eliza Machine) is out of order since couple of months at center of excellence (CMC) Larkana, so that the factual position of HIV/AIDS cases during two months from January to February is total 31 HIV/AIDS cases registered, while 273 HIV/AIDS cases registered in 2012 at center of excellence Larkana.
The number of 354 HIV and 3 AIDS patients reported by the independent observers, while in Hyderabad the number of registered HIV positive people is 58 and 3 AIDS patients.
Whereas, 17 HIV and only 2 Aids patients in Dadu, there are 11 HIV positive and one Aids patient in Murpurkhas, there is no Aids patient in Sanghar and Sukkur, while the number of HIV patients was 96 and 66 respectively.
The total number of 3942 HIV positive and 69 Aids affected positive patients were recorded in Karachi said the sources.
Panjal Khan Sangi Chief Executive MWT Larkana told that five organizations were working for the preventions of deadly disease of HIV/AIDS with the support of Sindh AIDS Control Programme (SACP) Health Department-Government of Sindh. He told that the center of excellence providing Anti Retroviral Therapy (ARTs) those who suffering from HIV/Aids, after the conformation of CD-4 results from the civil hospital Karachi, In Larkana, Mehran Welfare Trust provides financial aid and special emergency support to those HIV/Aids CD-4 tests in Karachi.
He further told that the project under care and support with the help of CRS/NACP and Global Fund, working for the most at risk people Injecting Drug Users (IDUs), Commercial Female Sex Workers in the red-light area, Male Sex Workers and Hijra Sex Workers and Jail-Inmates in district prisons.
He told that the Out-reach Workers/Peer Educators and Field Motivators visited High Risk Communities and collected information about Hazards of HIV/AIDS through interpersonal communication and focused group meetings, besides distributing Condoms in connection to fallow preventive measures against deadly HIV/AIDS.
On the occasion, all SGPs have strongly demanded of SACP to restore machines and others resources to provide such facility at the centre of excellence Larkana.
Besides MWT also provides community and home based care support to PLHIV in the form of providing food support, nutritional support to infected and effected families’ children, regular medical and referral support, vocational training support, supportive investigation for test support, school package support for the school going children as well as funeral support in the case of HIV/AIDS Patient’s deaths.
