Lahore: June 27, 2013. (PCP) Asia Bibi, a Christian mother of five, sentenced to death on accusations of blasphemy was shifted to Multan Jail on June 14, 2013, from Sheikhupura District Jail, without any notice from Punjab Jail Authorities to her family or attorney. Asia Bibi was arrested in 2009 under charges of blasphemy Section 295 B and C PPC, subject to capital punishment when during working in farm with Muslim women touched drinking water pot in village of Ittan Wali in district Sheikhupura. Asia Bibi was blamed of making drinking water unclean by Muslim women as Christian infidels are prohibited to touch eating or drinking utensils in Pakistan. The arguments among Asia Bibi and Muslim women ended on blame that she has defiled holy name of Prophet Mohammad and committed blasphemy. Asia Bibi was sentenced to death by hanging and fine in November 2010, by District and Session Judge of Sheikhupura when she was in Sheikhupura District Jail. Asia Bibi filed a petition in Lahore High Court against her conviction and sentence to death which is pending till going to file this story and she was kept in sheikhupura District Jail. The City of Multan which is hundreds of miles away from Sheikhupura which is home town of Asia Bibi and her transferred news has created anger among her children and husband. Dr. Nazir S Bhatti, President of Pakistan Christian Congress PCC has expressed grave concerns on shifting of Asia Bibi to Multan prison which will cause difficulties to visit her family member and attorney. Nazir Bhatti said “PCC have already expressed concerns about safety and security of Asia Bibi in sheikupura jail while her shifting to Multan jail is very serious issue” Nazir Bhatti feared that Asia Bibi will face threats in Multan Jail or will be forced to convert to Islam under pressure as one Christian who visited her in Sheikhupura jail in 2011; she found Islamic books in her cell which she told visitor that jail authorities are teaching her to read. Asia Bibi is illiterate and teaching her in jail to read Islamic books created doubt among Christian social and political circles in Pakistan.
