Toronto: July 16, 2013. (PCP) Canadian Christian Association (CCA) held its 3rd Annual Youth Canada Day Basketball Tournament in Mississauga, Ont., on July 6, 2013. The program was started with the opening remarks by Prof. Obaid Chaudry, CPA, CMA, CA, (past president CCA) about the tournament, followed by the opening prayer by Mr. Sohail Pervaiz – Secretary CCA, which was followed by the Canadian National Anthem.
Mr. John Gill, MBA, and president CCA, welcomed all the teams and the guests. In addition, he emphasized the opportunity to network and to have fun. All the teams were well prepared, which led to very exciting and close matches. Humberlea Worship Centre won the tournament after a superb and very competitive final, which included many three points shots by both teams. Evangelical Asian Church (EAC) was placed second, North Burlington Church third, and CCA team fourth place. Eng. Shahzad Elahi Ex – MPA Punjab, presented the trophy to Hemberlea Worship Centre for being the 2013 Champion (he was on visit from Pakistan), Bishop Dr. David Charles to Evangelical Asian Church, Mr. Samson Shabaz – host of Radio Program Paighaam, to North Burlington Church, and Mr. Shahid Farooq – Chairman Ujala International, to CCA. MVP was awarded to Kern Lewis of the Humberlea Worship Centre and Mr. John Gill presented the Trophy to him. Special thanks to Mr. Shazad Qadar, Mr. Waseem Iqbal, Mr. Daniel Niamat – executive CCA, Mr. Shabaz Sindhu, Mr. Khalid Gill, Rony Jacob – executive CCA, Mr. Sohail Pervaiz – Executive CCA, two Referees from the Ontario Basketball Association (OBA) for doing a great job in officiating all the games, and all the other volunteers who helped with the tournament.
Hon. Brad Butt, MP for Mississauga-Streetsville, also attended the tournament and gave words of encouragement to youth and appreciated the work that CCA is doing in the community.
