Lahore: August 13, 2013. (PCP) On August 11, 2013 Centre for Legal Aid Assistance and Settlement (CLAAS) and Pakistan Christian National Party (PCNP) arranged a protest demonstration at the front of Press Club Lahore regarding the minority day in Pakistan. August 11 is declared as minority day in Pakistan by the government of Pakistan but the religious minorities do not admit this day as minorities day because they claim that they made Pakistan as they participated in the Pakistan creation movements more that Muslims or Islamic organizations. They said that they are not minorities but the equal citizens of Pakistan.
It was raining but over three hundred people from minority groups were present in this peaceful demonstration including the very famous Christian organizations and Parties including CLAAS, Pakistan Christian National Party Lahore, Human Rights Focus in Pakistan (Naveed Walter, Faisalabad), and Pakistan Christian National Party Faisalabad wing, Bright Future Society and some local Christian leader participated.
People were holding play cards and banners written with the statements that “Stop Social Intolerance and Violence against Minorities of Pakistan” Provide Constitution Rights to Pakistani Minorities’ Amend Article-2 of the Pakistan
Constitution’ Minorities should be accepted as equal citizens of Pakistan’ Provide Employment Opportunities to Non-Muslim Citizens on Equal Basis’ and Stop Discrimination Against Christians in Pakistan. They were slogans for the religious minorities’ protection and against the constitutional discrimination.
Mr. Joseph Francis National Director CLAAS and Chairman Pakistan Christian National Party gave statement to the media and urged the government of Pakistan that they should remove all discriminatory laws from the constitution of Pakistan otherwise we do not accept this constitution and if the situation will remain same we will be forced to burn this constitution at the front of Islamabad Parliament House. Mr. Joseph Francis also stated at the government should provide equal employment opportunities to religious minorities etc. 11 August is not a minorities day in it is a black day for minorities who are facing discrimination throughout their lives while the founder of Pakistan said in his first speech that “there is no Hindu, No Muslim and No Christian all are Pakistani and equal citizens of Pakistan”.
