Glasgow UK: August 22, 2013. (PCP) Torrential rains in North West and central Pakistan have claimed more than 118 lives and left more than 80.000 people displaced. The Glasgow based human rights organization Global Minorities Alliance (globalminorities.co.uk) is urging relief and aid organizations across the UK and world to jump into action. The alliance is calling the UK and International aid agencies to assist the children and families whose lives have been wrecked by the floods and who now are left deserted with their homes in ruins. The National Disaster Management Authority of Pakistan (NDMA) has issued a warning for northwest and central Pakistan amidst the fresh spell of torrential rains which already have done a considerable damage. Around 135,000 acres of crops have been inundated and ruined. The rains have also destroyed and damaged more than 4000 houses far and wide in the country. According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) in all the four provinces more than 1,745 villages have been submerged and damaged. Around 94 relief camps have been set up accommodating over 9,200 people. Global Minorities Alliance (GMA) while flagging the flood situation in Pakistan is urging relief organization in the UK and abroad to rescue and aid the flood victims. The alliance has also received requests from local representatives of communities in Pakistan who have made the alliance aware about the havoc caused by monsoon rains this year. “It is real tragedy which hits the poor families in Pakistan almost every year” said Mr Manassi Bernard the GMA Chief Executive. 2013 in Punjab alone close to 320,000 people have been affected by floods. According to reports received by the alliance villages in Kasur, Punjab are damaged and submerged in fresh spells of monsoon. The villages of Chanda Singh, Masteke Village and Gati Kalanger are in dire need of relief aid. More than 24 people have died and close to 160,000 people are affected in Sindh Province while in Balochistan and Khyber-Pakhtunwa, at least 18 and 24 people have died due to the floods lashing the provinces. The Alliance has received a report from the local Pastor Reverend Benyaameen Najum who requested for immediate relief for 44 families in central Pakistan especially in the villages of Chanada Singh Village, Masteke Village, Gati Kalanger. “People have no place to go to and are drinking flood water” said Reverend Najum The Alliance has received urgent help appeals to rescue the flood affectees and to provide them with foods, tents, warm clothes. “We urge aid agencies, relief organization to reach out the flood affected families which are left in the lurch and has left many homeless, shoeless and shelter-less and believe people will respond to the genuine need and provide relief to the children and families” said Shahzad Khan the Alliance’s International Director of Peace and Harmony.
