Ottawa: September 22, 2013 - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird and Andrew Bennett, Canada’s Ambassador for Religious Freedom, today issued the following statement:
“Canada strongly condemns today’s terrorist attack on worshippers at the historic All Saints Church in Peshawar, Pakistan, which left at least 72 people dead and wounded more than 120. This was one of the deadliest attacks on the Christian minority in Pakistan in years.
“We are deeply concerned by the violent disregard of extremists in Pakistan for the right of all religious communities to practise their faith in peace and security. This was an act of cowardly violence that brutally targeted innocent worshippers.
“Canada calls on Pakistani authorities to bring these perpetrators to justice and to protect those who seek to worship in peace, free from fear and intimidation.
“On behalf of all Canadians, we send our thoughts and prayers to those affected by today’s heinous violence.”
