Libya and abduction of PM Zeidan: Anas al-Liby, MI5, MI6, Lee Rigby and linkage to Syria. By Jibril Khoury and Lee Jay Walker
Recently the Prime Minister of Libya, Ali Zeidan, spoke out against Libya being a conduit of arm smuggling and other important areas related to national security. It is a well known fact that major Gulf and Western powers alongside Turkey are using Libya to smuggle military arms to terrorist and sectarian forces in Syria. Also, the same nations have enabled a plethora of terrorists and mercenaries to utilize this part of the world in order to spread chaos to Syria. Therefore, once Ali Zeidan spoke out about this openly then he was endangering himself to the daily chaos which blights the failed state of modern day Libya.
Zeidan made it abundantly clear to the BBC during a recent interview that Libya was being manipulated in order to destabilize other nations. He also spoke out against the growing rise of Islamist militancy which is often fused together with criminality, petty power bases and being mini-states within a state. Of course, for Gulf and Western powers then Libya is also a play ground whereby they can utilize sinister forces in order to destabilize nations they are opposed to and this notably applies to Syria.
Ironically, Zeidan during his visit to the United Kingdom appealed for help from the leaders of this country in stemming the arms flow to Syria. This is extremely ironic because the United Kingdom, France, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and United States created the current nightmare in Libya. Then, just like in Iraq, the above nations cared little about the well being of either Iraq or Libya because they have collectively funneled terrorists, military arms, special operatives and mercenaries into Syria in order to destroy this secular nation. The upshot of this is that Iraq and Libya have also been hit by more destabilization because the same sectarians, Salafists, Takfiris, terrorists and mercenaries have used the policies of the Gulf and West in order to further their own respective causes. Algeria, Egypt, Mali, Niger and Tunisia can also feel these negative convulsions emanating from the intrigues of outside nations and various terrorist factions.
Currently you have mass confusion about events on the ground in Libya because of conflicting reports. The BBC reports that “Libyan PM Ali Zeidan has been seized from his hotel in the capital, Tripoli by a former rebel militia loosely allied to the government.”
“The group said it arrested Mr Zeidan following a prosecutor’s warrant, but the government has denied this.”
“He is being held at the interior ministry and being “treated well”, an official with the department said.”
“There is anger since Saturday’s US commando raid in Tripoli which seized senior al-Qaeda suspect Anas al-Liby.”
Ironically, the Anas al-Liby case is further evidence of the mass naivety within the British secret services – for example MI5 and MI6. It is known that one of the individuals involved in the barbaric murder of Lee Rigby was targeted to become a recruit of the British secret service. Likewise, al-Liby was given political asylum despite his al-Qaeda links being fully known and MI6 also tried to recruit him.
In the Lee Rigby case the Modern Tokyo Times states that “Turning to the security agencies of the United Kingdom then it appears that too many are very naive and that some members are ignoring certain laws which are meant to protect British nationals. Michael Adebolajo, a religious fanatic, was held by the Kenyan police near the border with Somalia because he tried to join the al-Shabaab. Yet, instead of having a system which imprisons British nationals who go abroad to kill in the name of Islam; it appears that the United Kingdom welcomes them back with open arms by flaunting the 2006 Terrorism Act providing the circumstances fit. Not only this, but MI5 deems this to be a great opportunity to obtain a possible informer whereby they will pay tax payers money on a person who supports mass hatred.”
“Now, if you don’t understand the mindset of al-Shabaab this is all and well. However, clearly the security services of the United Kingdom and the political elites do. Therefore, despite the al-Shabaab in Somalia killing every convert to Christianity that they can find and destroying Sufi Islamic shrines; it appears to matter little. The al-Shabaab not only behead Muslim converts to Christianity while praising Allah but they also support stoning women to death and chopping hands off for minor crimes. This reality is being glossed over too much and the same applies to Islamist nations which have good relations with the British government.”
In other words, MI5 and MI6 will go to great lengths in order to recruit individuals which despise the West in order to fulfill the intrigues of the British government. Lee Rigby was butchered in a barbaric way in London – similar to what Takfiri killers in Syria are doing to Alawites, Christians, the Shia and Sunni Muslims who are loyal to the Syrian government.
Modern Tokyo Times also reports that the “Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, David Cameron; the Foreign Minister William Hague; and one of the killers of the innocent British soldier Lee Rigby; all share one common theme. They all support anti-Syrian government forces which are involved in many beheadings, terrorist acts, killing Alawites, persecuting Christians, killing Sunni Muslim clerics loyal to the government and other brutal acts of barbarity. Therefore, David Cameron and William Hague are focused on supporting the dark forces of terrorism and sectarianism at the government level against Syria. Meanwhile, one of the Islamists involved in the brutal murder of Lee Rigby was canvassing on the streets of England to fight against the Syrian government.”
This dangerous fiasco is nothing new because Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, United States, United Kingdom – and other Gulf nations – all supported and trained international jihadists in the 1980s and early 1990s in Afghanistan and Pakistan. The convulsions of these events and the ratlines linking jihadists in Bosnia with Septermber 11 and Madrid continue to plague the world. Despite this, the same players decided to “sleep in the same al-Qaeda, Takfiri and Salafi bed in Libya” just like they are in Syria.
The current chain of events in Libya with regards to the abduction of Zeidan is being linked to the capture of al-Liby. Once more, the British elites should hang their heads in shame but of course one expects the usual wall of silence and the same continued policies.
The Guardian reports in 2002 that “The Libyan al-Qaeda cell included Anas al-Liby, who remains on the US government’s most wanted list with a reward of $25 million for his capture. He is wanted for his involvement in the African embassy bombings. Al-Liby was with bin Laden in Sudan before the al-Qaeda leader returned to Afghanistan in 1996.”
“Astonishingly, despite suspicions that he was a high-level al-Qaeda operative, al-Liby was given political asylum in Britain and lived in Manchester until May of 2000 when he eluded a police raid on his house and fled abroad. The raid discovered a 180-page al-Qaeda ‘manual for jihad’ containing instructions for terrorist attacks.”
Further down in the same article it states that “The Observer can today reveal that the MI6 officers involved in the alleged plot were Richard Bartlett, who has previously only been known under the codename PT16 and had overall responsibility for the operation; and David Watson, codename PT16B. As Shayler’s opposite number in MI6, Watson was responsible for running a Libyan agent, ‘Tunworth’, who was was providing information from within the cell. According to Shayler, MI6 passed £100,000 to the al-Qaeda plotters.”
Turning the clock forward to 2013 and now al-Liby is finally in the hands of America but why did the United Kingdom give him political asylum when they knew who he was? It would appear that pressure was only put on al-Liby when he didn’t fully comply with MI6. Despite this, it clearly shows the dark reality of MI5 and MI6 when it comes to international terrorism and many murky dealings internally within the United Kingdom. Indeed, it is also abundantly clear that the CIA and MI6 in 2013 – and other security intelligence agencies from France, Turkey, Qatar and Saudi Arabia – are all involved in helping sectarian terrorists in Syria to obtain military hardware. Libya and NATO Turkey are powerful links in the anti-Syria chain and this is what Zeidan was warning about.
The BBC states that “In an interview with the BBC on Monday, Mr Zeidan had said Libya was being used as a base to export weapons throughout the region, and called on the West to help stop militancy in Libya.”
“Last month Mr Zeidan visited the UK and appealed for British help to remove weapons from the country amid fears of increased arms smuggling to Syria.”
Yet who is truly behind taking Zeidan remains up in the air at the moment because of conflicting reports. Also, given the long ratlines linking MI6 with al-Qaeda terrorists and assisting them within the United Kingdom; then did the British welcome the abduction of al-Liby given his links to past British intrigues?
France 24 reports about the ongoing events in Libya by stating that “Libya’s Prime Minister Ali Zeidan has been abducted in Tripoli, Justice Minister Salah al-Marghani told FRANCE 24 on Thursday. A government statement confirmed that gunmen had taken Zeidan from the Corinthia Hotel in Tripoli, where he resides.”
“The head of the government, Ali Zeidan, was taken at dawn this morning by gunmen to an unknown place for unknown reasons,” the statement said. There were no clashes during the incident and no shots were fired.”
Currently, it is impossible to say for certain what is really happening in Libya in relation to the abduction of Zeidan. This is because of conflicting reports and the chaotic nature of this failed nation state. However, it is clear that America, France, Qatar, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom are all behind this chaos because of their short-term policies. Sadly, for the people of Iraq, Libya and Syria these short-term policies are long-term nightmares and of course you have no war crimes for the perpetrators of such instability. In other words, the above nations will simply do what the British government did with al-Liby and one of the killers of Lee Rigby – they will wash their hands away with these individuals and start all over again in another country.
