Glasgow UK: December 5, 2013. (PCP) A Glasgow-based human rights organisation is asking people to Make Noise for Peace tonight (Friday 6 December) by coming along to the gig at Blackfriars Basement (36 Bell Street, Glasgow, G1 1LG) Merchant City, in the heart of Glasgow.
Global Minorities Alliance, which fights for the rights of persecuted minority groups the world over, is hosting the event to raise awareness of the struggles people across the world have because they are different to the majority community in their country.
Whether this difference is due to their religion, beliefs, ethnicity, gender, background or orientation, Global Minorities Alliance stands behind them in their struggle for acceptance, equality and Justice and peaceful co-existence.
The Make Noise for Peace gig features bands such as The Corvus Experiment, Static Rock, Electrobuddha, Alexander Macdonald, Laser Fox and Pedro. Doors open from 6pm and the music starts at 7pm.
"Music is a universal language which can inspire and encourage us to help the helpless and make a difference in the lives of those who need it the most," says Shazar Khan, the Alliance's Ambassador of Music and Culture.
New Zealand based singer and composer Rachel Hamilton’s song 'Pearl of Peace' has been dedicated to the Alliance and will also be premiered at the night. The song has been written by Alliance’s vice-chairperson Shahid Khan.
"Global Minorities Alliance aims to tackle poverty on a grand scale from the slums of the third world cities to the aftermath of natural disasters," says Will Johnstone, musician, journalist and newly appointed Goodwill Ambassador for the Alliance.
"They seek to stamp out racism, fascism, sexism, ageism and empower the equality of women in all countries where their human rights have been neglected and reforming discriminatory laws, essentially modernizing the legal systems in those countries and working together with the aim of a peaceful coexistence between all people."
Tickets cost £5 and will be available on the door. There will also be a one minute silence for the victims of Clutha tragedy to pay respect to the friends and families of those who lost their loved ones.
Minority communities - such as Rohingya Muslims in Burma, Roma communities in Europe, Coptics in Egypt, Baha’is in Iran or Christians in Pakistan - are often marred with inequality and discrimination in the countries of concern where Global Minorities Alliance is working to promote equality and human rights.
As well as awareness raising events like Make Noise for Peace, Global Minorities Alliance is also fighting persecution through education. The current campaign is 'GMA Gift Box 4 Kids' campaign will help the most disadvantaged and the neglected children in Kenya, Ghana, Uganda, Pakistan and Myanmar to gain their education.
