Islamabad: March 6, 2014. (PCP) Convener World Minorities Alliance, Convener Overseas Assembly Pakistan, Former Federal Minister and Nominee for Nobel Peace Prize Dr. J Salik met Chairman, Council of Islamic Ideology Maulana Mohammad Khan Sheerani today, after a long time of twenty one years. He gave a letter in Council of Islamic Ideology on the issue of liquor taxes. He also gave a petition in Supreme Court of Pakistan on the same issue as well.
He said that Liquor is illegitimate in Islam but liquor taxes are constantly being used in legal Budget in our country. This practice is continuously illegitimating our budget. Because of this illegal earning from liquor taxes we are constantly facing so many problems and it’s the very hard time for our country as well. The liquor taxes should not be included in National Budget this year to make the budget pure and legitimate.
He further said that according to Pakistani legislation liquor is allowed for Christians but it’s hardly forbidden by Christianity as well. Ministry of Minority Affair was dissolved under the eighteenth amendment in constitution and minorities were deprived from the only fund of Five Crores rupees too. As there is no any policy for the betterment of minorities so it is requested that the amount of liquor taxes should be use only for the welfare and betterment of orphans, widows and deserving people of minorities. Kindly take the serious action and issue the orders to all concerned departments.
He demanded Chairman Council of Islamic Ideology; Maulana Mohammad Khan Sheerani that passage of Meesaq-e-Medina should be engraved on the first wall of Council of Islamic Ideology building. Country Manager of Islamic Help Mr. Habib Ahmed was also present alongwith JSalik on the occasion.
