Faisalabad: March 10, 2014. (PCP) Human Rights Focus Pakistan (HRFP) in collaboration with Coalition for Rights of Minorities (CRM) and Global Human Rights Defense (GHRD) celebrated the International Women’s day and staged a rally in front of Press Club at district Faisalabad (Punjab). The participants raised demands to end all forms of violations against women to the Government authorities and decision makers.
The huge number of women’s participated and the rally was joined by different civil society organizations, political workers, social activists, lawyers, teachers, youth and students. The participants promoted women rights through play cards and banners with different slogans on women’s rights.
The rally lead by women leaders and the main speakers of the rally were Miss Hafiza Ayesha Khan( Religious Leader/Teacher), Ms Bano Shahbaz(Women Leader), Ms Nasreen Pervez(Political Worker), Ms. Shahida Johnson( Social Activist), Akmal Bhatti(Political Worker), Mr. Kamal Chugtai( Ex- MPA), Maulana Kubaib (Religious Leader), Mr. Iftikhar Ahmed(Human Rights Defender), Ms Sarwat Advocate, Ms Uzma Advocate, Pastor Ajmal and Naveed Walter (President HRFP).
The participants urged the Government to take quick actions to stop violence against the women, particularly against the incidents of acid throwing, stove bursting, burnings, honor killings, trafficking and against the rising incidents of sexual and mental harassments these practices are exploiting and making them more marginalized. The participants of the rally demanded to take serious actions against all types of violations and the immediate strategy should be planned to control such incidents.
Giving reference to different forms of violations against 90 % of the women’s is a serious concern to their self-esteem. The speakers highlighted that each out of three women in Pakistan is subjected to physical, sexual, psychological and emotional violence. The speakers also highlighted that still during better opportunities in the different fields at administration level; the males are given preference over the women’s. During rally the women’s social, political, cultural and economic issues were raised in the light of United Nations theme 2014 of “Equality for Women is Progress for all”.
The rally was concluded with the remarks of President HRFP that without women’s role the society cannot flourish towards its full potential and we should continue our struggle until the formation of violence free society for the women’s, he added more.
