Lahore: April 10, 2014. (PCP) Today, employer of Christian couple who were sentenced to death by District and Session Judge of Toba Tek Singh on allegation of sending blasphemous mobile text messages, Bishop of Gojra, sent his representatives to District Jail to seek power of attorney from victim Shafqat Emmanuel and his Shagufta Kausar to plead their appeal. On July 21, 2013, a handicapped man Shafqat Emmanuel, whose wife Shagufta Kausar was working as maid in house of Bishop John Samuel of Gojra City, were alleged by Muslims of sending mobile text message to defile name of Prophet Mohammad. Gojra is same city, where Christian life and property was attacked by Muslim mob in 2009 on pretext to basphemy, when Islamic extremists set of fine more than 60 homes of Christians and burnt live 8 Christians. As, Christian couple Shafqat Emmanuel and Shagufta Kausar were living in servant quarters of Bishop John Samuel, the police raided Bishop House and arrested Shafqat Emmanuel and Shagufta Kasur under 295 B and 295 C PCC registering FIR 407/13, on July 21, 2013. The fear spread among Christians of Gojra like 2009, Muslim mob attack on pretext to blasphemy on which Bishop John Samuel distanced himself from his employee Shagufta Kasur and denied to witness to record his statement before police investigation officer. If Bishop John Samuel have recorded his statement that Shagufta Kasur is uneducated and cannot do text messages in any language then she might have been saved from allegation of blasphemy and case have been not registered against her. It is very important to note that Shagufta Kasur have four minor children and crippled husband while she was making two ends meet of her family with performing maid services in house of Bishop John Samuel who was well aware her family situation. In country like Pakistan where Muslim are in majority with power and influence, the poor Christian minority members fully depend of Christian clergy who run schools and other institutions with foreign aid collected in name of their poverty and take them as their social and religious saviors but unfortunately they not spare to deceive their confidence in every situation; same did Bishop John Samuel and not delivered truth to safe Shagufta Kasur from open sword of blasphemy laws. Bishop John Samuel never paid any attention to take care of children of this Christian couple nor he provided them ant legal assistance during last 10 months when they were behind bars but suddenly appears in their support and sends his envoy to District Jail Toba Tek Singh to persuade them to sign power of attorney in his favour. What are facts? When Shafqat Emmanuel and Shagufta Kasur were arrested on accusation of sending blasphemous text messages on July 21, 2013, from Gojra City and sent to Toba Tek Singh Jail, a prominent active non-governmental organization World Vision in Progress WVIP, stepped forward to rescue them and provided this Christian couple with legal aid and took their four minor children to WVIP safe home. Bishop John Samuel put pressure of father of Shafqat Emmanuel (Emmanuel Masih) and brother of Shagufta Kausar (Joseph John) to bring all four children of blasphemy accused couple to back his hostel room from WVIP safe home but children refused to go to Bishop House stating ill treatment toward them during their stay in hostel where enough food was not provided to them. When four Children of Shafqat Emmanuel and Shagufta Kasur were in hostel of Bishop John Samuel they uttered horrified treatment before WVIP camera recordings on which CEO of WVIP took full responsibility of education of these minor children also till Christian couple is free from jail. PCP sources also revealed that Bishop John Samuel instead of appearing before investigation officer of police to witness that Shagufta Kasur is illiterate which might have saved this Christian mother from charges of blasphemy text messages, he concentrated on making pictures of her children. When in 2009, Muslim mob attacked Christian Town in Gojra city and destroyed homes of Christians and burnt alive 8 Christians who were children, women and elderly man, the opportunists Christian clergy was busy in taking photos to cash incident. During ten months, when, WVIP was taking care of children of this Christian couple, visiting them in jail and providing them legal assistance then Bishop John Samuel was absent from scene till April 4, when death sentence was awarded to them by Toba Tek Sigh court. After death sentence to Shafqat Emmanuel and Shagufta Kausar on blasphemy charges on April 4, 2014, the WVIP filed appeal against judgment in Lahore High Court on April 7, 2014; Why Bishop John Samuel is attempting to seek power of attorney from Christian couple?
