Inayat Bernard+ Salman Johnson) April 11, 2014: “Our purpose is to make our young generation for religious and diocesan formation aware about the services done by the Christians in different fields of life”. Fr. Inayat Bernard; the rector of St. Mary’s Seminary was talking to the Capuchin, Franciscan and diocesan students along with the novices of different congregations gathered for the third program of Tazkara-e-Masihi Mashaheer at St.John Mary Vianey Hall of St. Mary’s Seminary.
He said that different denominations of Christians have spent their time and resources for the educational uplift of the citizens of Pakistan from the beginning of creation of Pakistan. He welcomed the speakers and thanked them as well for their video presentations and their valuable information.
He told the audience that on the 22nd February, 2014 in the first program the topic was Christian the Christian Contribution in Armed Forces in defense of Pakistan. He informed them that from next month the final exams of the students will begin. Therefore the next program will be in September, 2014. He expected that through such seminars the minds of the future male and female leadership will be enlightened to have self honour that we have done great contribution in the field of education.
The program was presided by Dr. Kanwal Feroze while the four speakers were Col ® Azim Ilyas coordinator Church of Pakistan’s Lahore Diocesan Board of Education, Shahid Ambrose Moghal Principal St. Anthony’s High School, Fr. Shahzada Khuram OFM Cap and Sr. Magie SCJM. In the beginning the Psalm was sung by the seminarians namely “ Sekhawan ga tenu wekhawan ga rah”.
Col ® Azimn Ilyas shoed video presentation about the facts and figures of their schools and their plans for the refresher courses of the teachers etc. He talked about the history and number of schools which belong to the church of Pakistan. He told that we are contributing in this field by giving fee concessions especially to the destitute and poor ones.
Shahid Ambrose Moghal shed light on the 125 years of educational services by the Catholic Church. He said that we have produced good leaders such as the present Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Punjab’s Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and so on.
Fr. Shahzada Khuram OFM Cap talked about the Capuchin Education system in the Archdiocese of Lahore. Belgian Capuchin missionaries were the pioneers in this field. He said that we are passing through challenging era therefore we need critic scholars.
Sr. Magie SCJM shared her views of education which can be more helpful in future. She said that the teachers have to make use of their talents. If they use their skills they will be useful but if they do not prepare and s is removed then it will no more be skill but only kill.
In his presidential address Dr. Kanwal Feroze; the chief editor of the monthly Shadab said that in this seminar we have only talked about the educational services by the Catholics and church of Pakistan while the Presbyterian, the Salvation Army and 7th day Adventists have also played their role. He appreciated conducting series of Tazkara-e-Masihi Mashaheer and hoped that the male and female students will get more acquainted with the history and feel proud to continue with the same zeal and zest.
