Islamabad: July 11, 2014. (PCP) The main accused named Umer Abdullah in murder case of Shahbaz Bhatti; former Federal Minister for Minorities Affairs in government of Pakistan gets bail from Anti-Terrorist Court ATC here today.
Shahbaz Bhatti, a Christian and Federal Minister for Minorities Affair was gunned down in capital city Islamabad on March 2, 2011, when he was on way to participate in Cabinet meeting from his home.
The killers sprayed 28 bullets on him after stopping his car and dropped pamphlets on his dead body which said that its punishment of a blasphemer by Tehreek Talban Punjab TTP. The pamphlets also warned that whoever will speak against blasphemy laws in Pakistan, his fate will be death.
Shahbaz Bhatti was demanding amendment in blasphemy laws which were targeting religious minorities in Pakistan to settle personal scores.
The ATC Judge Atiqur Rehman who has reserved decision on bail application of main accused Umer Abdullah granted bail on submission of one million rupees surety bonds today.
Accused Umer Abdullah had confessed to the murder of Shahbaz Bhatti before Islamabad police. He was injured when he was arrested by the police and the intelligence agencies from a private hospital on the accusation of links with Al-Qaeda.
The bail to killer of Shahbaz Bhatti have spread wave of fear and insecurity among millions of Christians in Pakistan.
