Islamabad: July 22, 2014. (PCP) J Salik lead a massive protest of more than five hundred slum residents along-with their beds (Char-Pai) against the attitude of WAPDA today in front of National Press Club. J Salik told on the occasion that the slum of F-6/2 is one of the legal slums since 1995 (on the summary of Former Federal Minister J Salik). But even after twenty years there is no development at all even the very basic facility of providing electricity was constantly ignored by WAPDA and after so many applications finally in 2001 WAPDA became agree to provide a single meter to this slum if the residents will arrange their own transformer and wires. The poor residents arranged 10 Lac and gave it to WAPDA for transformer and wires and the issue was resolved temporarily. This single transformer was facilitating five hundred houses of slum with a single meter but unfortunately this transformer was inoperative on Thursday 17th July, 2014 in the morning time. The residents paid at least 5 cruor rupees to WAPDA on the name of bills in the last 13 years. When the residents informed WAPDA about the happening, WAPDA told them to purchase new transformer and according to WAPDA the worth of a 200 KB transformer is 12 Lac but one transformer is not enough for the need of slum so they should purchase two transformers, said J Salik. He said that as the slum residents are very poor how they can afford such costly transformers and it’s hard to live without electricity as well, so many children, women and old people are suffering with these circumstances and its making no difference on establishment. He told that I have talked to the AC WAPDA, Bakht Zaman on this issue and he also assured for cooperation but sizzling weather and a huge number of mosquitoes forced them to come out on roads with their beds. Protester in the leadership of J.Salik have reached kohsar Police station for their Arrest as protest. Children, Women, Oldies, are included in this Protest.
