'Muddee' war: AFB's Weisner appeals to Marri brothers to end animosity

Washington DC: October 19, 2014. (PCP) A leader of the American Friends of Balochistan, an organization that works for an independent Balochistan in the U.S., Saturday appealed to two of the sons of legendary Baloch freedom leader Nawab Khair Bakhsh Marri to peacefully sort out the issues related to "muddee" or national assets of the Baloch resistance. Jane E. Weisner, general secrteary of the A.F.B., in an open letter to key Baloch leaders, including Sangath Hyrbyair Marri and Nawab Mehran Marri, expressed anguish over reports that one of the resistance groups had laid mines to blow up members of the other group. The tussle over the "muddee" or national assets of the resistance dates back to the December 5 2007 arrest of Hyrbyair Marri and his aide Faiz Baluch in London when the assets effectively went into the hands of his younger brother Nawab Mehran Marri. After Hyrbyair Marri and his comrade Faiz Baluch were finally exonerated from the terrorism cases in spring 2009 he asked his younger brother for the return of the "muddee." But Nawab Mehran Marri refused to return the muddee and answer any questions on how those were spent to the leadership of the Baloch Liberation Army. In stead, he launched his own splinter United Baloch Army with the blessings of his late father comprising dissidents of the B.L.A. Dr. Allah Nazar, Sangath Hybryair Marri, Nawab Brahumdagh Bugti, HRH Khan of Kalat Agha Suleman Daud, Mir Javed Mengal, Nawab Mehran Marri and Ali Kachkol Advocate; leaders and rank and file members struggling for an independent Balochistan. My Dearest Baloch friends: My name is Jane Eastwood Weisner and I am general secretary of the American Friends of Balochistan. This organization has worked hard in raising the profile of Balochistan’s Freedom movement in the United States. Our efforts include organizing the first international conference on Balochistan, writing to members of the House and Senate, contacting leading journalists, and think-tanks, organizing protest rallies and press conferences. I and my colleagues have dedicated our efforts to introduce the Baloch indepdence question in the United States. However, to my dismay and distress I have knowledge that some Baloch leaders are fighting over “muddee”, which I learned means resources of the resistance. I have always tried to argue that the Baloch are better than the Punjabis, who I believe to be in league with the Taliban. The recent news of infighting among Baloch brothers namely Hybyair Marri and Mehan Marri have left members of the Americans who support a free Balochistan troubled. This is truly tragic news. The animosities have reached dangerous levels that threaten the success of the struggle for an independent Balochistan! It has come to my knowledge that one resistance outfit has laid mines to blow up members of another resistance group. Are you individuals working for the establishment in Pakistan? I call upon all those involved in these actions to cease and desist and treat all Baloch freedom fighters with mutual respect and as equals in this long journey to a free and independent Balochistan. I urge all Baloch leaders and freedom fighters to make peace with each other and unite to fight for the one cause all of us which to see realized, an independent Balochistan. May Balochistan be free.
