Faisalabad: November 8, 2014. (PCP) Human Rights Focus Pakistan (HRFP), REAT (Right to Expression, Assembly, Association & Thought) Network and Coalition for the Rights of Minorities (CRM) strongly condemns the brutal murder of a Christian couple named Shama bibi and Shahzad Masih burnt alive at Chak 59 in Koth Radha Kishan some 50km from the provincial capital Lahore.
Naveed Walter President Human Rights Focus Pakistan (HRFP) said during a Press Conference that the ruthless pattern of brutal violence continued to happen against the weakened minority group at the town of Koth Radha Krishan in Eastern Pakistan. Human Rights Focus Pakistan in response of this heart cracking incident expresses words of sorrow and disappointment against the increasing religious fundamentalism in Pakistan. Naveed Walter further said that the incident astonished the whole world and further damaged the reputation of the country regarding safe existence of minorities. The Government of Pakistan and law enforcement agencies losses their credibility in ensuring protection to the citizens of state, he added more.
Naveed Walter said that a Christian couple was falsely accused for blasphemy by the brick kiln factory owner and religious fundamentalists, they beaten them pitilessly and destructively spread in the surroundings through Mosque’s loud speaker that the Christian laborer couple has desecrated the verses of Holy Quran. On 4th November, 2014 the clerics and dozens of fundamentalists gathered to take action against the couple at the spot, where they were confined by brick-kiln factory owner for last 2 days for not returning the amount of loan. The mob gathered and drags them out of the room, firstly tortured them brutally and then threw them into the fire of brick kiln factory, both died and burnt at the spot with melted bodies. The initial respondents of the police also reached there but they failed to stop the vibrant mob.
Naveed Walter further said, the police and government efforts will remain futile until the culprits are brought to justice. HRFP is uncertain about the protection of religious minorities in Pakistan because in the past years, the incident of Gojra, Badami Bagh (Joseph Colony) Lahore, Fictitious Blasphemy Allegation on Rimsha Masih Islamabad, Twin Suicide Bomb Attack at All Saints Peshawar, Assassination of Khalil Ahmad Ahmadiyaa person in the Prision and Murder of an Ahmadiyaa Medical Doctor, Dr. Mehdi Ali Qamar at Rabhwah (Chenab Nagar) and number of other incidents proofed the insecurity of the religious minorities.
Naveed Walter demanded the Government of Pakistan to must come up with a definite stategy for protecting the well beings of the religious minorities particularly in the rural areas of Punjab where such incidents occurred regularly and should ensure strict implementation of this policy to ensure the safety of religious minorities, he added more.
