LARKANA: November 10, 2014. (Nazir Siyal) Civil Society Support Program in collaboration with Christian Community and Hindu Panchayat Larkana on Monday staged protest and took out rally against brutal killings of Christian couple and also forced conversion of religion of Hindu girls in Sindh. The protest rally started from Jinah Bagh and marched to Larkana Press Club where protesters were shouting slogans against thrilling incidents; they also condemned the alleged abduction and forced conversion of Hindu girls in various parts of Sindh province. Speaking on the occasion, the father Qaiser Francis said that government should enforce the provisions of blasphemy law in true form of aspects as it is being misused by unauthorized quarters. He said that culprits of the Kot Radha Kishan incident should be awarded an exemplary punishment so that nobody could take the law into their own hands in the name of religion. He said minorities were feeling insecure due to such incidents and demanded the protection of Minorities. He further said that Supreme Court of Pakistan, in its recent landmark verdict in a suo-motu case has directed government to form a National Council for minorities’ rights with the mandate to tailor policy recommendations for safeguarding and protecting minorities’ rights and following the kidnappings of Hindu community members in Sindh, National Assembly had agreed to form a fact-finding committee on attacks against minorities. Any progress on both the mentioned reports never appeared anywhere. Sadiq Joseph said that atrocities against Christians continued in Punjab, but no authority had taken notice of it. Such incidents which continued unabated had made Christians insecure. He said minorities were loyal citizens of the country and deserved equal rights including security of life, property and honour. He demanded the government to ensure minorities’ rights and protection so that they could live with satisfaction and contribute to the country’s development. Khalid Chandio said that incidents of forced conversion, murder and threats to religious minorities had become the order of the day. Mere condemnation and expression of grief and sorrow over the incident is not enough. The Govt must move on and take practical measures to ensure the protection of minorities. Afzal Shaikh said that it is the responsibility of government to ensure the rights of minorities, said that this barbaric incident has raised a sense of insecurity among the religious minorities of the country who have continuously been persecuted using blasphemy law. He condemned the alleged abduction and forced conversion of a 12-year-old Hindu girl Anjali Bai in Daharki of Ghokti district and demanded all the culprits involved in this inhumane act should be apprehended and brought to justice. On the occasion, Father Qaiser and Sadiq Joseph of Christian Community, Vijay Kumar and Murli Gul of Hindu Panchayat, Civil Society Activists Khalid Chandio, Imtiaz Gorar, Javed Shah, Qadir Bux Qamangar, Shamsuddin Chandio and Umer Buriro and others participated in protest.
