Lahore: December 4, 2014. (PCP) On December 3, 2014, Rev. Fr. Mushtaq Piyara, Parish Priest Hafizabad informed CLAAS telephonically that a young Christian girl Noreen Bashir aged 14 resident of Thatha Gondal Hafizabad was kidnapped on November 26, 2014 by a Muslim named Mahatab and forced to embrace Islam and married to her kidnapper. A case FIR for kidnapping of Noreen has been registered at the local police station by her parents Bashir Masih and Ruqqiya Bibi. Fr. Mushtaq said that a Christian leader Dr. Rafaqat Masih is helping the poor family as he is a president of the committee of Christian community and also an area councilor. He took gathered few influenced Muslims in the area including the district Nazim to pressurize Mahatab and his family to return the girl back to her parents as she is a minor and been forced to embrace Islam and get married. Dr. Rafaqat Masih informed CLAAS that he along with some other respectable Christians and Muslim brothers including district Nazim urged Mahatab and his parents that Noreen is minor and she should go back to her parents. Therefore he hopes that the girl will be returned to her parents today evening on DEC 03, 2014. Incident background: In November 2014 Bashir Masih hired Mahatab a local mason for his house construction as he needed one more room. Mahatab worked about 8-9 days at his house meanwhile he saw Bashir’s beautiful young daughter Noreen aged 14 and kidnapped her at the end of his work. He asked Ruqqiya Bibi (Noreen’s mother) to bring a coke/cold drink for him as he was not feeling well. When Ruqqiya went out to the market, Mahatab took Noreen with him forcibly. On return she did not found Mahatab and her daughter was also missing, she search for her but could not find. Dr. Rafaqat and Fr. Mushtaq asked CLAAS for legal assistance in this case and also asked shelter for Noreen at CLAAS shelter home for girls, as they were very hopeful for the return of their girl by Muslims. They are afraid to keep the girl at home as she embraced Islam either it was forcibly. Here in Pakistan it is very hard to survive for people who are forcibly converted. Though a person is forced to embrace Islam he/she have to live as Muslim otherwise he is killed by the Muslims. After the recovery of Noreen the parents want to file a divorce case legally to get their daughter free from the fake marriage. In this regard they are interested to get assistance of CLAAS.
