Lahore: February 23, 2015. (Salman Tariq) On February 19, a programme was organized namely “Services of Christians in the field of judiciary in honour of Chief Justice Alvin Robert Cornelius. The Programme was Presided by Justice Retired of Lahore High Court Jamshed Rehmat Ullah . Victor Daniel told about A. R Cornelius, that he was born in Agra in 1903.His father was a Professor at St. John College of Agra.A. R Cornelius got his initial education from Ludhyana. He got gold medal in inter and degree exams after it he went to Cambridge University for higher education. In 1926 he came back to his country, he became Assistant Commissioner and Session Judge. From 1944 to 46 he became the Chief Justice of Lahore High Court. From 1950 to 52 he became the Federal Minister of Law. In November 1952 to 53 he was elected as a Judge of Federal Court. On 23rd March 1956 he became the Justice of Supreme Court. On 13th May 1960 he became the Chief Justice of Supreme Court of Pakistan and he remained up till 1968. From 1959 to 62 he became the Chairman of Pay Commission. Again in 1969 he became the Federal Minister of Law. He got the biggest Civil Award Halal E Ahmer in 1967 he was a patriotic Chief Justice. In the absence of President Muhammad Ayub khan he became Representative President of Pakistan for many times. In the International Meeting for Law he represented Pakistan in Sydney Australia. He knew also the Islamic law very well .he used to say I am a Muslim Constitutionally. The case of Maulvi Tameez Ud Din is considered the best case of A. R Cornelius. In 1971 Governor General Ghulam Muhammad absolved the National Assembly. He requested him to prepare a frame of the Constitution of 1971; his frame was appreciated by many personalities. He did not attend the programmes mostly; only on the exhibition of a book he was seen. He spent his life in Fallaties Hotel Lahore in Room No 1 and 2, after the death of his wife he started to live in Room No 1. He had two sons namely Peter and Michael, Peter is living in America and Michael is living in England. On 1st 1991 December he got seriously sick and was admitted to the Services Hospital and when he was in hospital very popular personalities visited to meet him like Bishop Armando Trinidad Catholic Bishop of Lahore Diocese and Bishop Alexander John Malik Bishop of Lahore Church of Pakistan. On 21st December he died and his funeral took place at the Sacred Heart Cathedral Lahore and he was buried in Jail Road Lahore graveyard. Fr Samuel said those nations who forget their past they are destroyed. He said that he had learnt a lot because of this programme about Chief Justice A. R Cornelius who is a model for our Christian community. He said even we people are not educated but our works should show that we are the Christians and ambassadors of Jesus Christ. Fr Samson Dilawar said since 2 years we are attending this programme he said the purpose of programme is this that what our ancestors did in the development of our country? And what we are doing ?Fr Samson also said that our country was established by Christians he said we should not forget the history of our fore fathers. At the end the president of programme Justice Retired Jamshed Rehmat Ullah said that history is very compulsory for us because when we come to know about history then it effects on us and we get a motive by it. He said everyone wants to be something and every one cannot be Cornelius. In his Presedential talk he said we should be faithful and honest as A. R Cornelius was. He said we should do that what justice A .R Cornnelius did in his life. He said since 40 years he is in the field of Judiciary and he has not found anybody who blames that justice Cornelius was wrong but everyone says that he was Meritorious and a man of letters .at the end he said Justice A. R Cornelius made a lot of credentials in his life in the field of Judiciary.
