Pakistan constitution has no provision to protect minorities; Dialogue

HYDERABAD: March 20, 2015. (By Abbas Kassar) South Asia Partnership Pakistan (SAP_PK) Sindh conducted the discourse on force conversion study which was conducted by Kalpina Devi senior advocate of high court in consultation with key decision makers for formulation of Draft on 19 March 2015 at Marriott Hotel Karachi. The discourse was attended by MPA Nand Kumar from PMLF, M Parkash, Lal Chand Okrani PPP, Ravi Dawani, Malka Khan Aurat Foundation ,veerji Kolhi, Manhaz Rahman Shirkat Gah, Japial Chabberia and other have shared their view on issues of force conversion and way forwards. On this occasion, Kaplina Devi senior advocate shared study finding and said that element of forced conversion is because of societal freedom and illiteracy. She said that existing laws are not protecting the religious minorities including article 24 is not applicable for minority’s rights protection. She underlined that Angle Megwar was 14 years old and forcedly converted and our laws did not protect her. She said that Manual of Hindu family laws should be formulated their further protection to religious minirties, marriage is not prohibited. She said that discrimination exists in education and jobs where minorities Heros are not included in curriculum. She also shared that mostly forced conversion cases are indentified in Jacobabad , Tharparkar, Umerkot, Kashmore, Kandhkot Ghotiki, Larkana, Sukkur andother majority population of minority are facing the issues of forced conversion and marriage . The first step of force conversion is kidnapping from workplace in agriculture mostly and they are converted. She said those articles 36 of constitution, article 24 are not protecting the minority’s women and girls from force conversion; she demanded for shelter home for victims of force conversion for protection of women and girls. On this occasion, victims of force conversion Mr. Partab from Hyderabad shared case of force conversion, He said that my daughter has been kidnapped under age of 14 years and converted; police is not providing the help to us. He said that 02 years has been passed; but my daughter shuny is not returned to home and police informed us that she has been converted and not come back to you lifetime. Nand Kumar MPA PMLF said that I have submitted the force conversion bill and marriage bill first ever submitted by PLMF party in Sindh Assembly in Pakistan. He said that I have recently submitted the discrimination in education and eliminate hate contents in Curriculum. He said that force conversion passed bill has benefit the victims force conversion. He said that minority’s leaders are excluded from 18 Amendment committees where minority’s issues are not resolved. Aslam Sheikh Secretary Law department said that law department has been requested to minority affairs and private laws would be entertained on immediate basis. He said that laws are specially drafted by ministry of affairs department but they are taking interest in minorities laws. He said that minority should be suggesting the laws for protection of force conversion. Sumeta Ahmed minority standing Committee MQM said that we have supported in Resolution passed for elimination of hate content and teach the each religion in all schools. All parties should endorsed the forcedly conversion bill for curb the issues. M Parkash Minority leaders said that majority and minority leaders should take collect efforts for passed the force conversion bill and government of Pakistan is going to launch marriage registration law. Punhal Sario said that system should be placed for legislation; force conversion issues are disturbing the minority in Pakistan. State has no any writ for legislation for minority’s rights and protection in Pakistan. He said that we are not accepting forcedly conversion in any shape; it should be strictly prohibitive and beyond the laws. Michail Saleem Christian leader said that law department should process the force conversion bill and passed for legislation for minorities. Veerji Kolhi said that its mindset of majority and not agreed for legislation of minority; it is business of trafficking of human in the name of force conversion. It is terrorism in the name of religions and ways to forcedly migrates the minorities from Pakistan. He said that existing laws are not implemented and who guaranteed the new laws will be implemented. Shamoon pastor said that Government should be passed on immediate basis for protection of religious minorities of Pakistan. Manglla Sharma DIA said that when we demand the Shelter house for long time than what about children rights and how you can separate the children from his parents. Dr. Jaipal Chhabria said that behaviors of judges and courts towards to changed and they should focus on law’s provisions. He said that causes of force conversion are poverty, unemployment and poor law and order situation. On this occasion other has shared the views on force conversion and rights of religious minorities issues in Pakistan.
