Faisalabad: April 4, 2015. (PCP) Professor Anjum James Paul Chairman Pakistan Minorities Teachers’ Association (PMTA) in a press conference has demanded the government to respect Article 22 (1) and Article 25 (1) of the Constitution of Pakistan in the textbooks.
He said that the message of the Chairman Sindh Textbook Board Jamshoro is biased and violate Article 25 (1) of the Constitution of Pakistan. He demanded Sindh government to replace the biased Chairman of the Sindh Textbook and the biased message. He criticized the negligence of the Sindh Textbook Board that has failed to implement the National Curriculum 2006-2007 with letter and spirit.
Professor Paul further said that due to the efforts of Pakistan Minorities Teachers’ Association “Role of minorities in the creation of Pakistan” became part of National Curriculum History 8 and “Role of minorities in Pakistan” became part of National Curriculum of Pakistan Studies 10. He said that National Book Foundation Islamabad and Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board (PCTB) have already published “Role of minorities in the creation of Pakistan” in the subject of History 8. He went on saying that Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board and Balochistan Textbook Board Quetta have also published “Role of minorities in Pakistan” in the textbook of Pakistan Studies 10. Address of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah that he delivered on August 11, 1947 in the Constituent Assembly of Pakistan along with an interview on minorities has been included in detail. The role of prominent persons in different fields from the minorities has also been included in the nation building while textbook of Pakistan Studies 10 published by Balochistan Textbook Board has also published the address of the Quaid-e-Azam that he delivered on August 11, 1947 in the Constituent Assembly of Pakistan.
Professor Paul further said that he asked Mr F.E.Chaudhry’s grandson to mail him the picture of his grandfather to make it a part of the textbook of History 8. The PMTA Chief felt pride the Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board has published the same matter in History 8 that he produced to the PCTB.
Professor Paul criticized National Book Foundation, Punjab Curriculum & Textbook Board, Sindh Textbook Board Jamshoro, Balochistan Textbook Board Quetta and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Textbook Board Peshawar which are openly violating the Constitution of Pakistan 1973. Article 22 (1) of the Constitution that guarantees ‘No person attending any educational institution shall be required to receive religious instruction, or take part in any religious ceremony, or attend religious worship, if such instruction, ceremony or worship relates to a religion other than his own.’ It is so sorrowful that Pakistani textbooks are mostly considering all students of one religion, preaching only one religion, preaching only on conversion to one religion, promoting religious identity of only one religion and promoting dignity and glorification of the followers of only one religion
He continued saying that Article 25 (1) of the Constitution of Pakistan guarantees that ‘All citizens are equal before law and are entitled to equal protection of law.” is also being openly violated through the textbooks as they promote Islamic identity to Pakistan, Pakistan as a state of only Muslims, divide Pakistani nation on the basis of religion, create complex of majority and minority, express Quaid-e-Azam as a leader of only Muslims, compare among religions, let down the Holy Books of religious minorities, promote the sense to desecrate worship places, let down the minority religions, wrongly Interfere in the religious beliefs of minority religions , provoke religious violence, Instigate students to Muslim -Christian violence, Instigate students to Muslim- Hindu violence. These textbooks are biased against Christians, Hindus, Sikhs and Parsis. These textbooks are also biased against many civilizations
