Lahore: April 30, 2015. (Pervez Yousaf) Council for Interfaith Dialogue (CFID) organized a one day Interfaith Peace Conference in Lahore. Coordinator of CFID Fr. Francis Nadeem and Edward Qaisar Director of the Council were the chief organizers while Allama Pir Shafaat Rasool chaired the peace conference. Mr. Salman Manzoor from Switzerland and Shakeel Marks Khokher, Member of Provincial Assembly, Punjab; were the chief guests on this occasion. A number of Muslim and Christian religious leaders, scholars, traders residing in and around Youhanabad, representatives of civil society organizations were present in the conference. The objective of the conference was to eliminate the fear and insecurity of the Christian community after the tragedy of Youhanabad and to promote peace and interfaith harmony in the country.
The participants thoroughly discussed the ongoing chaotic situation and bloodshed continued in Pakistan, Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Libya, Nigeria, Kenya and other countries of the world. They specially focused the situation arose after the suicidal attacks on two Churches in Youhanabad, Lahore last month. They said it was an attempt to grow conflict and misunderstanding between the Christian and Muslim citizens of the country. They said that the efforts carried by CFID along-with Muslim and Christian scholars, religious leaders, traders and representatives of civil society organizations brought fruitful results and succeeded in developing religious harmony in the country. They strongly condemned all the acts of terrorism and killing of innocent human beings in Pakistan, Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Libya, Kenya, Nigeria and other countries of the world.
Muslim traders and religious leaders of Youhanabad, assured of provision of full protection and support to the Christian brethren of Youhanabad. One of the religious leaders disclosed that two suspicious Muslim boys burned during the riots after the attacks on two Churches were outsiders. These attacks and post attacks situation was a part of a plotted conspiracy.
The participants also enlightened candles as a symbol of peace and harmony. They recited prayers according to their beliefs and creeds for the promotion of peace and interfaith harmony throughout the world. The participants offered prayers for the martyrs and wounded of Youhanabad massacre as well as for the victims and deceased of earthquake in Nepal and surrounding countries.
Thanking the guests and participants of the conference Fr. Francis Nadeem said religions should not be the cause of creating hatred and differences among people because both Islam and Christianity teach us to live with peace with one another.
The participants unanimously approved the following charter of demands:
We demand from the Federal and Provincial Governments of Pakistan to take immediate measures to protect the lives and properties of religious and sectarian minorities of the country and to curb the acts of terrorism;
We appeal the heads of all the political leaders to give up their disputes with one another and carry out efforts for the progress and progress of Pakistan;
We demand from the UNO and heads of all the war and terror affected countries to carry out immediate measures for the restoration of peace and to protect the lives and properties of the religious and sectarian minorities.
We appeal the electronic and press media to play their role in promoting peace and interfaith harmony;
We appeal leaders and scholars of all the religious to convince the people to promote peace and to eliminate all sorts of religious and sectarian discrimination.
Allama Farooq Ahmed Saeedi, Hafiz Mufti Syed Ashiq Hussain, Allama Asghar Arif Chishti, Allama Zia-ur-Rehman Farooqi, Hafiz Shoaib-ul-Rehman, Dr. Aftab, Dr. Sultan Mehmood, Dr. Tariq Aziz, Syed Sohail Shah Bokhari, Hilal Khan, Hafiz Mian Liaqat, Mian Murtaza, Abdul Samad Butt, Dr. Farooq, Malik Umar Farooq, Malik Mushtaq Rehmani, Mian Babar Hussain, Karamat Malik, Tablib Hussain, Safdar (Jeweler), Ch. Muhammad Akram, Muhammad Hussain Mayo, Nambardar Khushi, Rana Khalid Qadir, Maulana Gul Muhammad Chishti, Mr. Moazzam, Haji Sher Ali, Faryad Ali, Azam Ghurki, Imran Rana, Haji Imdad Ullah Jan, Sunil John, Khurram Shahzad and Khurram Siddique were among the notable participants of the conference.
