Karachi: May 9, 2015. (PCP) Hundreds of Christians staged a sit in against orders of a Muslim employee of Sindh High Court appointee as Administrator of Young Men’s Christian Association YMCA Karachi to bar Christian active member of YMCA to offer prayers in YMCA Chapel.
YMCA is an International institution with its branches in every metropolitan city of world to promote cultural, social and sports activities among youth of all religions.
There is classification among YMCA membership on which Christian Youth or Young Adults can only be Active members who can elect Board of Directors amongst Christian Active members with ballot to run YMCA facilities while Youth of other religions can attain membership and enjoy boarding lodging and sports opportunities but cannot vote nor can become member of Board of Directors or administrator.
The Bishops in the city where YMCA may be situated are treated as life patrons of YMCA but mostly its limited to Bishop of Catholic Dioceses or Anglican Church Dioceses.
When administrative and property disputes surfaced in Karachi YMCA in 2005, with scandals of millions of rupees of illegal and unauthorized agreements on YMCA properties with Muslim land mafia by some Christian clergy and YMCA administration then some Christian active members approached courts for justice.
Instead of speedy justice on petitions filed by Christian Active Members of Karachi YMCA, the Sindh High Court appointed nazir SHC (a clerk of Sindh High Court SHC) as administrator of YMCA to take care of day to day running of YMCA and to remove encroachments from YMCA facility;
The Muslim employee of Sindh High Court appointed as Administrator of Karachi YMCA failed to vacate YMCA ground from illegal land Mafia but issued orders that every Christian Active member of YMCA may not be allowed to offer prayers in Chapel.
On which Christian Lawyers Forum along with other Christian organizations held a press conference in Karachi Press Club demanding withdrawal of orders to ban prayers in YMCA Chapel by Muslim Administrator representing Sindh High Court unless to face strong protest of Active Christian Members of YMCA.
On May 8, 2015, hundreds of activists and members of Christian organization gathered in front of Karachi Press and marched towards YMCA compound where they staged sit in and chanted slogans “ YMCA is a Christian property, hand over it to Christians” “Ensure justice” “Punish Christian culprits who sold YMCA to Muslim land mafia”
Mr. Saleem Michael of Christian Lawyer Forum, Mr. Mushtaq Mato, President Minority wing Karachi, Pakistan Peoples party, Mr. Younus S Khan, Minority leader of Jamat e Islami, Mr. Choudry Patras, Chairman of churches bacho committee, Members of Executive committee of Christian Unity Forum and Mr. Joefrazer John, President of Human rights Mission Worldwide said in press conference that on 15th January 2015 the commissioner Karachi and Governor of Sindh came and demolished the wall build by land mafia, but fail to get the possession and still these people (Land Grabbers) booking YMCA Ground for various purposes, especially for marriage ceremony as marriage hall.
The Christian leaders demanded Karachi YMCA back to Christian active members and punishment for those who sold YMCA property or contracted to illegal lease or rent to influential Muslim land mafia.
