(Nazir Siyal) A three days media training and consultation session titled “Sindh Child Marriages Restraint Act 2013” have been organized by rural development NGO DevCon with a vision striving for socially, economically and politically viable society reflects to empower socially excluded through legislative frame work policies and awareness.
A large number of rural and urban Journalists of Larkana, Shikarpur, Kamber-Shahdadkot, Sukkur, Hyderabad Karachi and other cities will also take part in the media training and proper consultation of session at Karachi on Wednesday.
Early child marriages which is prevailing a reality of our society and the government is in state of denial, so the Civil Society and Media reports these issues frequently about Sindh Child Marriages restraint Act 2013, was passed by Sindh assembly, but rules of business yet to be finalized and need to be implement in this regard.
According to some researches prevalence of early child marriage is high due to illiteracy, religious misconception, tribal customs, traditions and lack of awareness about laws and implications on early child marriages.
DevCon strongly believes that media plays a vital role in shaping public opinion and looks forward to media’s positive voicing their concerns on violation of child rights at all levels and there is implementation of law is not possible without collaboration of government line departments,
DevCon promotes and protecting the rights of vulnerable children, so that the Media and civil society engagement during the training and consultation will consider its real challenge for the Government of Sindh regarding the implementation with letter and spirit.
On the occasion, key journalists and other experts of societies and leaders of PFUJ and KUJ will also deliver their lectures and presentations over the issues.
