GENEVA: June 25, 2015. (By Ahmar Mustikhan) A young and charismatic leader of the Balochistan liberation movement led a protest rally in Geneva Thursday to create awareness about Pakistan’s war crimes against the Baloch people. The chief of the Baloch Republican Party, Nawab Brahumdagh Bugti, 35, grandson and political successor of Baloch statesman Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti, who was assassinated by Pakistani army on August 26, 2006 on the orders of former coup leader and military dictator General Pervez Musharraf, addressed the protest demonstration at the Broken Chair in Geneva. While the UN’s Human Rights Council session on human rights was taking place inside the Palace of Nations, the BRP protesters said Pakistani war crimes and human rights violations taking place in Balochistan almost on a daily basis unabated for 10 years now, have left hundreds of thousands of Baloch victims. The perpetrators of the crimes are non-Baloch officers and soldiers of Pakistan army and intelligence services whose presence in Balochistan is detested by the natives. Nawab Brahumdagh Bugti told the gathering that Pakistan had made Baloch blood cheaper than water in Balochistan. “Baloch political activists and intellectuals are being abducted, tortured and killed under custody by Pakistani intelligence agencies on a daily basis,” he said, adding “Thousands have been victimized by enforced disappearances. Pakistan is committing a deliberate genocide of the Baloch people and the civilized world has remained silent spectators to it.” The situation in Balochistan has taken a turn for the worse since the April 20 visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping in which he promised nearly $50 billion if Pakistan helped connect Balochistan’s port of Gwadar with Kashgar in Xinjiang province. BRP spokesman Sher Mohammad Bugti and youthful representatives from other European countries Mansoor Baloch, Ashraf Sherjan, Farooq Rind – Oslo-based close relative of slain leader Ghulam Mohammed Baloch– and Asim Faiz also attended the demonstration. The BRP chief Brahumdagh Bugti lost not only his grandfather, scores of close relatives and thousands of tribesmen, but also to crush his resolve Pakistani intelligence services killed his elder sister Zamur Domki and niece Janaa Domki, execution style, on the streets of Karachi three years ago. His supporters were also burned alive in coal tar. Bugtis are the largest tribe in Balochistan and such fascistic treatment of their notables by Pakistan army and secret services — mostly Punjabis–, have outraged the Baloch people in Balochistan and all over the world. Bugti said BRP, as a representative party of the Baloch nation, has been highlighting Pakistani war crimes and state crimes against humanity on the Baloch people across Europe, adding that efforts were underway to make the campaigns even more effective with wider reach. According to the Voice of Baloch Missing Persons 20,000 Baloch have become victims of enforced disappearances in the last decade, making Balochistan the world capital of enforced disappearances. The Pakistani state latest round of barbaric actions in Balochistan began almost simultaneously with China’s entrance into the France-sized occupied territory to develop the Gwadar Port, abutting the Straits of Hormuz, in the early 2000s. American activist Kathryn Porter also attended the rally which brought together human rights activists from across the European continent. Expressing solidarity with Baloch nation, Porter said that Baloch were being oppressed in their own homeland against international laws and many Baloch mothers whether their children in Pakistan custody were alive or dead. She pledged that she would work for the Baloch cause in the US and would raise awareness about the current situation in Balochistan. Pakistan is extremely nervous about Westerners participation in Baloch protests and accuses Afghanistan, India, Israel, Iran, UAE, Oman and even the US and UK of supporting the Baloch liberation movement but Baloch writers and intellectuals say they have zero support in their struggle to thwart the Sino-Pakistan plans to take over Gwadar for military and commercial purposes. They are appealing to people of goodwill to help.
