LARKANA: July 13, 2015. (Nazir Siyal) Rising water level posing big threats to weak structures of Akil Aghani loop embankments and eroding T-Spur, Studs, while ahead 0.4 million cusec water from Guddu Barrage. The water level at Guddu Barrage upstream was recorded at 213392 cusecs and downstream at 192392 cusec yesterday, while Sukkur downstream to Larkana in few days told Chief Engineer Right Bank Sukkur at Larkana, who also visited along with concerned Engineers and staff at seven vulnerable embankments of River Indus to review the arrangements for upcoming flood situation. The area of protective embankments are 1325 miles in province and Sindh government concerned departments are actively taking measures in expected flood situation in Sindh and monsoon; there are 45 sensitive areas at River Indus and need to be vigilance. After the declaration of medium and low flood level at some areas of Punjab province, played a siren for Sindh and a deluge of flash flood water around 4 lac cusec will pass from Sindh. Sindh Government has directed the Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners and Taluka level concerned officials of Irrigation department Sindh to take precautionary measures to face flood situation. It was learnt from the sources that no Police Pickets, experienced flood fighting staff and required machinery yet available at sensitive dykes. After the supper flood 2010, damaged dykes were strengthened among Akil Aghani loop bund, Nusrat Loop Bund, Abad Mangli Bund, Ruk Bund, Seri Bun and others with cost of billions of rupees, but no long term solution was found to avert the danger, still conditions of Akil Aghani loop bund is said to critical, as after the strengthening and repairing of damaged embankments no maintenance work was carried out to keep it intact. Chief Engineer Right Bank Sukkur at Larkana Nazir Mahar told this scribe that more than 350,000 cusec water will pass from River Indus at Sukkur and Larkana at Nusrat Loop, Aqil-Agani, he visited the seven vulnerable embankments of his jurisdiction, all dykes are intact and there is no danger he told. He informed that he has put all officials on high alert during the flood situation; in this regard he is monitoring closely the situation. During the next 24 hours and causing the massive increase in flood water which will pass from Guddu Barrage, Sukkur Barrage and Kotri Barrage. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has alreaedy forecast monsoon rain, thundershowers at isolated places in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore divisions, Islamabad, Malakand, Hazara, Kalat divisions, upper Fata, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan and rest of Sindh. It is also pertinent to mention here that River Indus has 2513 Kilometer embankments on both sides in Sindh and 45 vulnerable dykes are still prevails, during the past super flood 1124700 cusec water at RL 178.8 had crossed by downstream Sukkur Barrage to Akil Aghani Larkana, upcoming deluge of 350,000 cusec water will enter into Sukkur Barrage in next two days, people of several villages are moving to the safer places on self-help basis currently.
