Lahore: July 25, 2015. (PCP) Different Christian political groups and Civil Society activists staged a protest in front of Lahore Press Club here today. An urgent meeting of Political and Religious workers of minorities in Lahore condemned the local bodies election act under which selection of religious minorities is being taking place in the Punjab province and rallied against it. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf parliamentarian in the Punjab Assembly said that they would not allow sabotaging the rights of Pakistani religious minorities. Minorities in Pakistan already feel deprived and believe they have no say in the legislations being introduced in the country. Political and social activist Khalid Shahzad said that he had attached hopes with the Punjab government that it would do good to religious minorities but it had even failed to implement the Supreme Court June 19, 2014 judgment. “With this type of injustice we cannot see the bright Pakistan we want to see being materialized.” Qaumi Masihi Party Chairman Hanif Masih said that even General Pervez Musharraf had given a right to minorities to elect their representatives in the local bodies elections that Christians were always neglected during the Sharif brothers’ government. He said that they introduce such laws that curtail the rights of religious minorities. Muthidda Masihi Party Chairman Tariq Siraj said that real leadership emerges from local body elections and this is a conspiracy to keep religious minorities from mainstream politics. Alfa Human Rights Care Association Chairman Dr. Riaz Asi said that human rights violations and abuses dramatically increase during Sharif brothers’ tenure. The meeting was attended by Advocate Nadeem Hassan, Advocate Haddayyat Gill, and Advocate Mehmood Saeed, Pakistan Muslim Legal-Qaid-e-Azam former councilors Javed Julius, Saddiq Raushan and Javed Asim.
