Rawalpindi: August 11, 2015. (PCP) Pakistan Minorities Teachers’ Association (PMTA) is launching a documentary on the Independence Day of Pakistan on August 14, 2015 in Rawalpindi. Chairman PMTA Professor Anjum James Paul while talking to Pakistan Christian Post said that the purpose of the launching of the documentary on the Independence Day is to invite the attention of the government of Pakistan to provide fundamental rights to the religious minorities which are being violated. Pakistani minorities do not enjoy their fundamental social, religious, educational and political rights.
Article 25 (1) guarantees “All citizens are equal before law and are entitled to equal protection of law.” He said, it is so sad that minorities have become second class citizens of Pakistan which is evident from the ‘Minority Day’. This day has segregated the religious minorities from the mainstream. The address of the Quaid-e-Azam on August 11, 1947 in the Constituent Assembly of Pakistan was not for the minorities only but for the entire Pakistani nation. He did not use word ‘minority’ in his address. Professor Anjum further said that the day is not far when ‘Majority Day’ will also be celebrated in remembrance of the passing of the ‘Objectives Resolution’ which divided the Pakistani nation in the basis of religion and ‘majority’ and ‘minority’ words parted the nation.
Professor Anjum Paul further said that there is discrimination with the minority students in the educational system of Pakistan and Article 20 (a), 22 (1) and Article 25 (1) are being violated. Minority students and their parents have fears regarding the protection of their faith matters due to the violation of Article 20 (a) of the Constitution of Pakistan 1973 that guarantees, “every citizen shall have the right to profess, practice and propagate his religion;” and Article 22 (1) that guarantees, “No person attending any educational institution shall be required to receive religious instruction, or take part in any religious ceremony, or attend religious worship, if such instruction, ceremony or worship relates to a religion other than his own.”
Professor Anjum further said that the documentary consists of audio, video and print material.
