Visitors ban imposed on visit to Moen-Jo-Daro

LARKANA: August 17, 2015. (Nazir Siyal) After much criticism by the media and concerned authorities, visitors ban on visit of Moen-Jo-Daro to conceal the substandard work and heavy corruption in ongoing schemes, now imposed new ban and restrictions on eating, drinking items as well riding of bykes on archeological sites. The Special Assistant to Sindh Chief Minister of Culture & Tourism Sharmila Farooqui on Monday visited Mohenjodaro and invited media persons at the site and acknowledged that authorites negligence and pubic visits have ruined it, so that she strictly directed concerned officials to implement her directives to save the world heritage and take stern action and ban all the visitors for more period, if the orders will not obey those officials violating the directives will be dealt strictly, added that due to monsoon rains, ban on visitors was imposed for two week to prevent the damages at site. Provincial Minister informed that on the directives of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Dry Core Drilling work was announced to be carried out at Mohenjodaro to ascertain its actual geographical area; work will start after two month owing to paddy crop in surrounding areas. Earlier Provincial Minister Sharmila Faooqi accompanying by Secretary Tourism and Culture Dr Niaz Abbasi visited the Sir Shahnawaz Memorial Library Larkana and reviewed the ongoing development schemes. She told media that her department has removed the occupation on land of Lakhen Jo Daro at Sukkur from land mafia, for promoting the culture; her department is establishing the Ajrak Clubs in different cities of Sindh, besides work on museum. On the occasion Sharmila Farooqi inaugurated the Shah Latif art gallery and Museum at Pakistan Arts Council Larkana with cost of 53 million. Commissioner Larkana Ghulam Akbar Leghari, Director Qasim Ali Qasim, Special Secretary Abdul Kari, Deputy Director Roshan Kanasiro, Deputy Director Shams Abbasi and others were present. Answering to a question regarding occupations at Lakhyan-jo-Daro in Sukkur, the special assistant on culture and tourism said that four plots at Daro have been got cancelled and cases regarding two more plots have been sent to High Court and we will also construct a boundary wall to protect the Lakhiyan jo Daro and to save it from occupations and the encroachments. Sharmila Farooqui said that these cultural and the historical places are a historical heritage for the nation and the future generations. The Chief Minister Sindh has clearly said that we want complete rid of crimes and the criminals, either they belong to what so over party. She also said that anti-corruption department in the supervision of Chief Minister Sindh is well active to eradicate the corruption from the province. On this occasion, Secretary Culture Niaz Ali Abbasi and others were also accompanied with the Special Assistant Sharmila Farooqui. Earlier, the minister during her visit she inspected construction work of ongoing scheme of museum/Ajrak Club at Sturt Gang area and directed the concerned officers to complete the scheme of "Ajrak Club" as early as possible within the stimulated period in order to enable the writers, social workers and civil society members to avail the due facilities of social welfare, cultural, Adabi and Fanoon-e-Latif activities there. During the short visit the minister also held meeting with writers, social workers, notables and artists at Qadir Bux Bedil Public Library in which the minister informed them that the government of Sindh has decided to introduce the Ajrak Club at various towns in Sindh. Meanwhile, District Historical Society had demanded of Archaeological authorities and Sindh government to save Mohenjodaro and recover precious ancient articles and other property already theft. DHS Larkana Secretary General Professor Mukhtiar Samo talking to this scribe disclosed that Mohen-jo-Daro is the sole property of indigenous people, the articles and original books by John Marshal were disappeared for a long during repair work on Museum at Mohenjodaro in February 03, 2013. Mr. Samo demanded of Technical Consultative Committee (TCC) of National Fund for MohenjoDaro to immediately recover the property of Mohenjodaro and preserve archaeology sites. He said TCC meeting is scheduled on Monday (today) to discuss archaeological site issues and its proper development. He also demanded of the Provincial Minister of Culture and Tourism Sharmeela Farooqi and higher authorities to fix the responsibility of theft of valuable articles and original books by Marshal he told. According to DHS Secretary General the researchers and visitors are keen and eye on these articles, so that Sindh government should immediately recover ancient articles of Mohenjodaro and original books and other valuables. Mukhtiar Samo said they will not compromise on such a behavior by authorities have speedy ruined world heritage Mohenjodaro, adding that we need to scientifically take steps to preserve and protect ourt heritage. DHS claimed that at least 15.000 million of allocations per year and many other funds among National Fund for Moenjodaro are available but millions of funds yet could not utilized. Sources disclosed that world heritage fund for monuments in sindh was an ADP project Protection, Preservation Promotion and Development of World Heritage Site of MohenjoDaro with a cost Rs. 10 million was witnessed drawn every year but no work was carried out but the Culture department Sindh’s website showing all the funds utilized every year. There is no accountability of funds and authorities brutally looted the wealth, while during previous month’s rain severely damaged all parts of site of Mohenjodaro and the public also vandalized moenjodaro.
