Lahore: September 16, 2015. (Atif Nazir) Monthly program was held at St. John Mary Vianney Hall, St. Mary’s Seminary Lahore under the heading of “Tazkara-e-Masihi Mashaheer”. The topic of the program was “Indo-Pak War Golden Jubilee in Remembrance of Our Christian heroes”. This day also marks the death anniversary of Major Sermes Rauf(Tamga-e-Basalat). Col. (R) K.M Roy (Sitara-e-Imtiaz Military) presided the program.The students from all the religious houses attended this memorable event.
Fr. Inayat Bernard, the rector, St Mary’s Seminary, welcomed the guests of honour including Lt. Col. (R) Anil Madan, Mrs. Esther Rauf, Commander(R) Salim Akhter Mathew and Brigadier (R) Khalid Nazir. Victor Denial, a famous intellectual and journalist, was given the responsibility of stage secretary.
The program began with the prayer by Fr. Inayat Bernard. In his introductory words, Father Inayat paid tribute to all the Christian soldiers who fought courageously in wars against India and in different operations against terrorists particularly to Martyr Major Sermes Rauf(Tamga-e-Basalat) whose death anniversary was being celeberated. He also described the history of the program “Tazkara-e-Masihi Mashaheer”. He told that from 2013 we have started Tazkara-e-Masihi Mashaheer to highlight the important facts for our future leadership in different fields of life in Pakistan.
Victor Denial saluted all the Christians who are serving Pakistan in different fields of life. He tributed all the Christian stars who sacrificed their lives in the wars against enemy. He stressed that we should get inspiration from our Christian heroes.
Javaid Denial, Editor of monthly magazine “Nia Tadeeb” recited a poem which he had written for the Martyr Major Sermes Rauf( Sitara-e-Basalat).
Brigadier(R) Khalid Nazir described that Major Sermes Rauf was a determined soldier who possessed great professional skills. He loved Pakistan madly. He also mentioned the song which Major Rauf often sang, Aye Watan Pyare Watan.
Azam Maraij talked through a video link. He introduced his book “Sabz-o-Safaid Halali Parcham Kay Muhafiz -o- Shuhda” in which he stated the services of many Christian soldiers who defended Pakistan with courage and audacity.
A documentary on the life history of Cecil Chaudhary (Sitara-e-Imtiaz, Sitara-e-Jurat) was presented on multi-media.
Lt. Col. Anil Madan said that we should not forget our Christian heroes who are shining like stars on the sky. He further explained that it is the need of the hour that we must know about our heroes and we should get inspiration from them.
Commander(R) Salim Akhter Mathew stressed that we must have firm belief in God and should work hard if we want to be successful in life. He also mentioned S P Singha whose vote played a vital role in the creation of Pakistan.
Rubina Esther Rauf, wife of Martyr Sermes Rauf, said that she is proud of her husband. She said that Major Rauf was a good husband. He proved to be a very kind and loving father. He loved his country devotedly.
Col. (R) K M Roy (Sitara-e-Imtiaz Military) expressed his views in these words that I am one of those soldiers who had fought the wars of 1965 and 1971 against India. I served for 34 years in Pakistan army. He told, as we know that Pakistan is facing a challenge of religious discrimination and extremism. But he said that there is no religious discrimination in Pakistan Army. The aim of the Pakistani soldier is to defend Pakistan only whether he is a Christian, a Hindu or a Muslim.
At the end, Fr. Inayat Bernard thanked all the guests and participants, Mrs. Rauf Sponsored dinner.
