NEW YORK: September 21, 2015. (PCP) All eyes of Pakistani Christians and thousands of Pakistani Christian Asylum seekers in South and South East Asia were on UN Summit of Parliamentarian on Religious Freedom that “Action Letter” will be also adopted against Islamic Republic of Pakistan on persecution of religious minorities but Action Letters were approved against, Vietnam, Myanmar and Iran.
UN Summit of Parliamentarian on Religious Freedom was held in New York from September 17 to 19, 2015, to approve Action Letters and to pass resolution to uphold Religious Freedom in member countries of United Nation.
Asyia Nasir, Member of National Assembly of Pakistan participated in this summit while she was present in UN Summit of Parliamentarians on Religious Freedom held in Oslo in 2014.
Asyia Nasir, a Christian woman in faith, is selected by an Islamic party named Jamiat Ulma Islam JUI (F) for the membership of National Assembly whom Pakistani Christian not voted as under discriminatory Election System “Joint Electorate” Muslim political nominate minorities individuals on reserved seats in Parliament when minorities voters are barred to elect their representation with their votes.
The Pakistani Christians had high hopes from Asyia Nasir MNA that she will raise voice in UN Summit of Parliamentarian on Religious Freedom when religious harmony and religious freedom is at serious risk due to blasphemy laws and other discriminatory laws against religious minorities and “Action Letter will be adopted against Pakistan” but she failed to prove her.
According to IPPFoRB press release The Summit focused on concrete actions, the gathering resulted in the issuance of advocacy letters to the President of Burma, the Prime Minister of Vietnam, and the Speaker of Iran’s parliament. In addition, the parliamentarians signed the New York Resolution for Freedom of Religion or Belief, committing them to renewed action to promote this fundamental right.
Parliamentarians attending the meeting came from: Bosnia and Herzegovina; Brazil; Burma/Myanmar; Cambodia; Canada; Central African Republic; Chad; Chile; Costa Rica; Denmark; Dominican Republic; Ecuador; Egypt; El Salvador; European Parliament; Georgia; Germany; Honduras; India; Iraq; Ireland; Israel; Jordan; Kenya; Lebanon; Lithuania; Malawi; Malaysia; Mexico; Netherlands; Nigeria; Norway; Pakistan; Paraguay; Peru; Senegal; Serbia; South Africa; Sudan; Taiwan; Tunisia; United Kingdom; Uruguay.
Dr. Nazir S Bhatti, President of Pakistan Christian Congress PCC have expressed his dismay on excluding Islamic Republic of Pakistan from Action Letter because Religious Freedom is barred in Pakistan after blasphemy law and religious communities door of dialogues have been closed.
“Islamic Republic of Pakistan is not safe for Christians and they are fleeing from Pakistan after rising violence against their life and property on pretext to blasphemy law” said Nazir Bhatti
PCC Chief added that situation of Religious freedom and human right is worse than Vietnam, Myanmar and Iran in Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
