Faisalabad: September 21, 2015. (PCP) Human Rights Focus Pakistan (HRFP) in collaboration with Global Human Rights Defense (GHRD) and Coalition for Rights of Minorities (CRMP), organized Peace Rally on International Peace Day in front of Press Club, Faisalabad.
The key stakeholders and participants from different walks of life, the Political workers, Social Activists, Human Rights Defenders, Women, Local Ngo’s representatives, Lawyers, Teachers and Students participated actively.
The protest was recorded through a Rally and it was strongly agitated against non-violent situation in the country and non-compliance of Supreme Court Verdict of 19th June, 2014 about religious minorities to protect and promote their rights.
During the protest Rally, speeches conducted by social and political leaders while Slogans chanted by the participants of the rally. The participants demanded the National and Provincial Governments to promote peace initiatives in the society, revise the biased curriculum accordingly and also exert pressure on the Government to implement the Supreme Court Verdict of 19th June, 2014. In this event, the message of peace was promoted to the general public of the society.
A Day earlier, HRFP along with civil society organizations organized a Press Conference. The other human rights organizations were invited to take part. HRFP put the attention to media that Government of Pakistan has failed to act in compliance with the Supreme Court Verdict of 19th June, 2014. Print and Electronic media representatives were requested to put stress on the Government of Pakistan through news stories, columns and special features/coverage to start undertaking peace initiatives and also implement Supreme Court Verdict of 19th June, 2014.
Regarding International Peace Day (21st September, 2015) HRFP, CRM and GHRD drafted and published IEC (Information, Education and Communication) material in shape of flyers with the peace message given with the theme of equality, tolerance and religious harmony. On flyers, the Supreme Court Verdict of 19 June 2014 is also highlighted for the purpose to urge Government to implement them. It’s used as an educational material through circulating it with the participants of Peace Rally, Media Personnel’s, General Public, CSO’s, Stake Holders and Government/authorities.
Naveed Walter President Human Rights Focus Pakistan (HRFP) shared that the Peace Day Celebrations and protest intervention is focused on promoting peace in the society and reducing human rights violations against the marginalized communities, Women, Children and Religious Minorities of Pakistan. He further shared that the celebration of the day is focused on increasing realization of the government to initiate devoted efforts to start peace campaigns and safeguard the lives and to restore the rights of the all citizens equally, he added more. Rai Naveed Zafar (Advocate), George Clement ( Ex MNA), Rehmat Bibi ( Activist), Habkook Gill ( Political Worker) and Raja Thomas ( Political Worker) also addressed the Rally .
