Karachi: October 18, 2015. (PCP) Dr. Nazir S Bhatti, President of Pakistan Christian Congress PCC in statement issued here today have urged US Administration to include Islamic Republic of Pakistan in list of countries of Special Concern CPC on violations of Religious Freedom in forthcoming list of State Department.
The countries currently on the CPC list are: Burma, China, Eritrea, Iran, North Korea, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.
Secretary of State John Kerry on October 14, 2015, released his department’s International Religious Freedom Report for 2014, and called terror groups the world’s greatest threat to religious freedom and refrain from issuing list of countries where said terror groups are active.
Kerry released the report alongside Rabbi David Saperstein, the ambassador-at-large for international religious freedom, who has been on the job for 10 months and highlighted other worrisome trends.
Saperstein decried blasphemy laws and apostasy laws in countries including Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Sudan.
PCC Central Secretariat said in this press note that Pakistan Christian Congress PCC Chief Dr. Nazir S Bhatti will write to President Barack Obama and State Secretary John Kerry to include Islamic Republic of Pakistan in list of CPC and condition its aid to religious freedom and human right which are under constant threat and forcing Christian and Hindu religious minorities to flee from Pakistan in large numbers.
Meanwhile in a report “Breitbart” have published that “In its newly released International Religious Freedom Report for 2014, the U.S. State Department has once again failed to place Pakistan on the list of Countries of Particular Concern (CPC), despite its status as one of the worst violators of religious freedom in the world”
“The State Department report acknowledges a “general failure” on the part of the Pakistani government “to investigate, arrest, or prosecute those responsible for religious freedom abuses,” and that this dereliction of duty “promoted an environment of impunity that fostered intolerance and acts of violence. By contrast, the independent, bipartisan U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), in its 2015 report, stated bluntly that “Pakistan represents one of the worst situations in the world for religious freedom for countries not currently designated by the U.S. government as ‘countries of particular concern.’” Writes Thomas D. Williams, Ph.D in his report published in Breitbart
