Rite of Diaconate of Five Capuchin Brothers

Lahore: October 21, 2015. (Pervez Yousaf) His Grace Sebastian Francis Shaw OFM Archbishop of Lahore ordained five Capuchin brothers to the diaconate at St. Mary’s Church Gulberg Lahore. The candidates for diaconate were Br. Lazar Aslam, Br. Adnan Kashif, Br. Azam Saddique, Br. Adeel Mazhar and Br. Almas Yousaf. The celebration began with the introduction of five candidates by Rev. Fr. Qaisar Feroz OFM Cap. In his homily the Archbishop expressing his pleasure said that this is a joyous day that five brothers are taking up their responsibilities as the deacons. Talking about the role of a deacon in the Catholic Church he said that the major service of a Deacon is to preach the Word of God and to dedicate their lives to Almighty God. The deacons can perform the rituals of the sacraments of Baptism and Matrimony. Talking to the deacons His Grace Sebastian Francis Shaw said that there are a number of difficulties in the world but you have to follow and spend your life according to the teachings of the Holy Word. You always have to be loyal to your Bishop and the priests (fathers). The Archbishop also highlighted the services of Capuchin missionaries that how, despite all the hardships they continued their mission in this region of South Asia. Thanking the Archbishop, the Vicar General Rev. Fr. Francis Gulzar, Rev. Fr. Ashraf Gill, Rector of the St. Mary’s Seminary Lahore Rev. Fr. Inayat Bernard, Rector of the St. Francis Xavier’s Seminary Lahore Rev. Fr. Asif John, the Capuchin and Diocesan priests, sisters, parents of the five deacons and lay people the Custos of Mariam Siddeeqa Custody Pakistan Rev. Fr. Francis Nadeem OFM Cap said that we always continue our efforts for the progress and welfare of the Church in Pakistan. He greeted the parents of five deacons to prepare their sons for this great mission. Rev. Fr. Qaisar Feroz OFM Cap was the MC while Rev. Fr. Patrick Samuel OFM Cap was the commentator of the ceremony. During the Holy Mass, students of the Capuchin House Lahore sang the hymns under the directives of Rev. Fr. Ashfaq Anthony OFM Cap.
