Former Minister in Pak-government Bishop Rufin Julius passed away

Lahore: December 14, 2015. (PCP) Bishop Rufin Julius passed away in his hometown Gujranwala at age of 69 on December 12, 2015, according to his family members posting on social media. Bishop Rufin Julius was appointed State Minister for Minorities Affairs on March 22, 1989 by Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto when he joined Pakistan Peoples Party PPP after winning election on reserved seats for minorities in national general elections of 1988. He was on number 3 in a row in Pakistan to be appointed as Cabinet Member in any government of Islamic Republic of Pakistan when in 1968, President Ayub Khan appointed former Supreme Court Chief Justice Carnilias as federal minister for law. In 1985, Prime Minister Mohammad Khan Junejo named Lieutenant Colonel Herbert as parliamentary secretary for defense. Bishop Rufin Julius was a Catholic Priest when he ran for national general elections of 1988 and won seat of National assembly of Pakistan on reserved seats for minorities defying notice of Catholic Bishops Conference of Pakistan to stay away from political arena. On September 18 1990, suspension order were served by Bishop Armando Trindade of Lahore, bars Father Julius from "all acts of the power of Orders, from all acts of the power of governance, (and) from the exercise of all rights and functions which are attached to the priestly office." Bishop Rufin Julius, former Federal Minister of State for Minorities Affair was buried in graveyard of Francis Abad Sheikhupura Road Gujranwala.
