Lahore: July 5, 2016. (Pervez Yousaf) July 02, 2016: Council for Interfaith Dialogue, Pakistan (CFID) hosted an Interfaith Iftaar Dinner (braking of fast) in the honor of Muslim brethren, children, and students of Muslim seminaries, women and youth. Coordinator of CFID Fr. Francis Nadeem OFM Cap was the chief organizer of this magnificent event for the promotion of national and interfaith harmony which was also attended by the Ulema (scholars) of Muslim, Christian, Hindu and Sikh communities of Pakistan. The event began with the recitations of the Holy Bible and Holy Quran by Muslim and Christian narrators followed by prayers according to their respective creeds. On this occasion Fr. Francis Nadeem OFM Cap welcoming guests threw light on the objectives of the programme. He said that for years it has become a tradition that we the Christian representatives of CFID invite our Muslim co-citizens for Iftaar during the month of Ramadan whereas our Muslim brethren invite us for breaking of fast during Christians’ fasting days. This bilateral expression of brotherhood brings us closer to one another. Expressing their views the participants appreciated the noble cause of Council for Interfaith Dialogue for the promotion of national and religious harmony. They said fasting is one of the common values prevailing in different religions likewise Christianity and Islam. Ramadan is a blessed month. The fasting teaches us tolerance, unity, brotherhood, forgiveness and almsgiving. The participants hoped that such kind of programmes would continue in the future as well and appealed to entire nation to live with peace. The participants offered prayers for the progress, prosperity and restoration of peace in the country. They also offered prayers for the elimination of current political tension and for the success of armed forces against terrorism.
