Karachi: October 7, 2016. (PCP) Ms. Jacqueline Sultan, Advocate High Court of Sindh during meeting with Anjum and Niggar and other Lady Advocates of High Court appreciated Pakistan’s Government for passing Anti-Honour Killing Laws and Anti Rape Bill. She said that the current laws, low literacy rate and ill-mind set are the main reasons of honour killing and rape. Most of the cases are not reported and conviction rates of the accused are low. She further added that honour killings rates are very high in rural areas of the country and according to HRCP report over a thousand incidents of honour killing was reported in two years but FIR was filed in only 400 cases due to police and landlords. She further added that in majority cases, the victim is a woman and the killer is a relative who escape punishment by seeking forgiveness for the crime from family members. She said advocates especially women advocates, civil society and NGOs working for the women protection and rights have struggled to get these bills passes. She thanked Farhat Ullah Babar, PPP Senator for moving these bills. She hoped for this legislation that iwill be fully enforce in Pakistan She emphasizes for speedy justice from judiciary to the victim’s family so that honour killings and rape ratio can be decreased after giving strict punishment for the convicts under these laws and Government should make it more tougher than the ordinary murder cases.
