Pakistan NA Committee rejects protection of minority rights bill

Islamabad: December 2, 2016. (PCP) The Committee on Human Rights and Law of National Assembly of Pakistan rejects a bill about protection of rights of minorities in a formal meeting which was under discussion after receiving from House. The said bill with title of Protection on Minority Rights was private bill presented by Hindu Member of Nation Assembly from MQM Mr. Sanjay Perwani who by himself is member of this committee. Human Rights and Law Committee of National Assembly have one member from Jamat Islami JI, one from JUI (F), one from MQM, Two from PTI, Three from PPP and Twelve from ruling PML (N). The private bill was presented to implement judgment which was passed in 2014 by Supreme Court of Pakistan after the bombing of All Saints Church in 2013 in Peshawar. The similar bill was passed by Sindh Assembly on forced conversion of religious minorities which is under protest by Muslim religious parties demanding repeal on terming it un-Islamic. Professor Anjum James Paul, Chairman of Pakistan Minorities Teacher Association have strongly condemned rejection of Protection of Minority Rights bill by NA Committee. He said that rejection of this bill is violation of the orders of Supreme Court of Pakistan. Dr. Nazir S Bhatti, President of Pakistan Christian Congress PCC has said that rejection of this bill is indication that Government of Pakistan is not serious to protect religious freedom and rights of religious minorities of Pakistan.
