Lahore: December 11, 2016. PCP) Patron-in-chief of Pakistan Hindu Council and Member of National Assembly Dr Ramesh Kumar Vankwani has said that there should be interfaith conference on provincial level after every three months so that non-Muslim representatives will have sufficient time to not only highlight their issues but also present practical solutions. He was exchanging his views on the occasion of “International Seerat Conference” in connection with the 12th Rabi-ul-Awal. “Non-Muslim representatives must have complete freedom for the legislation regarding their matters,” Dr Ramesh Vankwani said, urging the need for the minorities to solve their problems without any intervention. Dr Ramesh, in his speech, termed the Charter of Medina as most important initiative for ensuring the peace in the city. The charter, which was drafted by the Prophet of Islam (PBUH) shortly after his arrival at Medina, ensured freedom of religious beliefs and practices for all citizens. Dr Ramesh was of the view that interfaith harmony has played pivotal role to maintain peace and cooperation among all segments of the society. “All Medinan citizens, regardless of religion were required to support the oppressed people and defend the homeland,” Dr Ramesh emphasized. Dr Ramesh, while presenting his 3-points recommendations for promoting the interfaith harmony in Pakistan, said that comparative study of religions should be included in the curriculum from primary level and its syllabus should be finalized with the consultation of faith leaders. Dr Ramesh Vankwani also called for the complete ban of alcohol in the name of non-Muslims, urging that teachings of all religions prohibited their followers to consume it.
