PCC Punjab President demands release of Christians on 2nd anniversary of Youhanabad bombing

Lahore: March 17, 2017. (PCP) President of Pakistan Christian Congress Punjab Council Mr. Daud Sharif Sahotra has demanded release of all Christians who were arrested during protest after twin suicide bombing on two Churches in Youhanabad on March 15, 2015, in Lahore. Dozens of Christians were martyred and many injured on March 15, 2015, when two suicide bombers entered in two Churches in Christian Colony named Youhanabad in Lahore and blew them when services were underway. Any Christian residents took to streets to lodge protest against killing of Christian worshipers without adequate security by government of Punjab. During protest two Muslims were also killed on which police arrested over hundred innocent Christians under charges of murder and terrorism There are about 40 Christians who are in Kot Lakhpat Jail Lahore and denied bail even because police have filed terror charges against them. PCC Punjab President Mr. Daud Sahotra has urged government of Punjab to release them as released arrested in lynching of Christian couple. Meanwhile, Christian community commemorated the event in a Memorial Mass for the victims. Leading Archbishops of Lahore Father Frances Gulzar, Emanuel Yusaf Mani, Bishop Irfan Jamil, Father Shahid Meraj and Irshad Ashknaz, General Secretary World Council for Religious Peace Hafiz Allama Nauman, Allama Ijaz Ahmad attended the ceremony. The Bishops led the services, describing the heroic deeds of the youth and priests involved in the Youhanabad tragedy. MPAs Shehzad Munshi, Shakil Khokhar and President Human Friends Organization Sajid Christopher said that terrorists have no religion as they have targeted mosques, churches, cinemas, market and even educational institutions. They said the Christian community deserves credit for not turning the attacks into a sectarian massacre on the eve of the sad tragedy. They said that the sacrifices of the martyrs of Youhanabad incident will not go waste as the memories and the loss of our near and dear ones is still fresh in our memories.
